The first thing he noticed was the smell of sulfur and rot, gas leaks tinted with mercaptan, air dense, thick and hard to digest, worsening his nausea.
The second thing he noticed was the floor he was sprawled onto, cobblestone filled with holes that gathered puddles, the stone was slimy under his fingers, and his attire was stained by mud—over other things.
The third thing he noticed was a crushing hand to his neck and a punishing choke to his wind pipe.

Summary
The battle of New York was a turning point for the entire planet – but especially so for Bruce Banner. This is a unique chance for him to find the Hulk a place in this world. It is a staggering hope, but unrealistic as it sounds, it might just come true.
And then his hesitant plan turns out to be too successful. Everyone including the Avengers apparently expect the Hulk to take his turn in the spotlight. But the more Hulk thrives, the more Bruce withers, and nobody seems to notice or care. When Loki extends a hand to him, he is fully aware it is a trick – but he has got nothing else to hold onto.
The Avengers realize just a bit too late how royally they screwed up. The sharp-sighted, ever-watching Hawkeye cannot blame himself enough for not having seen this disaster coming. Can they still be saved from Banner ?
Do they even deserve it ?
(The story is set right after the 2012 Avengers movie with slight EMH dynamics thrown in the middle.)

Viktor extends his hand, not to harm, but as a welcoming gesture. As if to ask Jayce to take it.
"I wish to show you the limits of your flesh. The feebleness of all that you experience. To drive my way into you and control your senses, bodily. So that when we are one, when you join me in the vast sea of consciousness, I can pry it from your memories - our memories - and show you the strength of what awaits you by contrast."
Jayce squints, more confused than accusatory.
“You want to torture me?”
"Worse."

Before Jayce joins the Glorious Evolution, Viktor offers him an ultimatum. Jayce accepts, hoping to delay the inevitable.
Not for any other reason.
