Summary
They see a couple kiss in the park and Aziraphale seems interested by the concept. Crowley “reluctantly” agrees to indulge his curiosity, knowing full well that this will be the death of him.
~~~
“And how do you know if it’s the right person? Do you just try it out?”
Crowley turned his full attention to Aziraphale. “What are you getting at?”
The angel straightened, staring at the ducks on the water and decidedly not at Crowley. “I want to try it,” he said simply.
Crowley’s glasses slid down his nose, he blinked in confusion, and something in his chest seized up, just a bit. “You want to… to kiss someone?”
“Yes.”
Summary
The year is 1809. Crowley’s friend Jane is a master smuggler of both goods and information who seems to know exactly who people are and how they act. She asks Crowley’s help with a larger robbery she has been planning, and Crowley agrees without hesitation. Meanwhile Aziraphale has been helping her friend, a brilliant author Miss Austen revise her novel manuscripts in the hopes that they could one day be published for the wider audiences. Aziraphale finds the books witty, innovative character studies of British gentry, but getting a romance novel written by a woman published in the early 1800s would take a real miracle.
When Aziraphale accompanies Jane to a ball, they run into Crowley, and all three are surprised by the other two being acquainted. Although the angel and the demon are happy to not poke further into each other’s businesses with Miss Austen, Jane seems to be convinced her two friends are in the middle of a great love story like from one of her novels and need some encouragement to admit their true feelings.
Summary
Castiel Novak has spent years loving Dean in the quiet spaces between what’s said and what isn’t. He’s learned to live on scraps – shared beds, secret touches. But after another night of giving too much and waking up to nothing, Cas finally draws the line. He can’t do this anymore. He doesn’t want to call it off, but if he won’t call it love, he’ll just go find someone else to call him baby. He's tired of opening his heart to someone who just sees him as an explicit kind of love affair.
Dean Winchester never meant to fall in love with his best friend. Sure, he can shoot another shot to try and stop the feeling, but Castiel has always been the one thing that feels real. Still, fear kept his mouth shut and his heart locked up – until he sees someone else’s hand on Cas, someone else leaning in to make him laugh. Jealousy simmers into something sharp and desperate because losing Cas? That would wreck him. But under the glitter and neon lights he’s suddenly standing in the face to face with "I told you so” and starting to realise he may already have.
Summary
When he looked back up again, the waiter had a rather dazed look on his face. His eyes were running over Castiel’s form hesitantly and he seemed to have straightened up a bit, eyes becoming more attentive and mouth curving upwards in a tentative smile. He brought a hand up to self-consciously smooth his hair down, tongue darting out to wet his lips. Castiel, of course, didn’t notice any of this, oblivious as always to the intricacies of the human bodily responses to attraction. Dean, however, noticed almost immediately and he felt his eyebrows scrunching up in the middle despite his best efforts to control his face. Sam’s eyebrows, on the other hand, had shot up to his hairline and his mouth opened for a second and then closed again, apparently being unable to find anything to say.
Summary
Just west of the town Porthgwarra, Cornwall, Robert Singer’s farm lies, a mess of ravaged land gaping out onto a fretting sea. Robert's orphaned godson, Dean Winchester, is named sole beneficiary of the farm - and though he hasn't seen his godfather in fifteen years, he travels across the Atlantic with his brother and half brother to care for Singer in his old age and tend to the farm. All of them hope to leave behind the squalor and famine of their old life.
What Dean meets is the bird-infested home of a widowed eccentric, and a new shepherd whom he can neither stand nor see any use for - stoic, rude and conceited, Dean plans to fire the mysterious and wandering Mr Novak the moment he comes into legal possession of the farm. But upon the shepherd's offer to teach him the trade, in anticipation of Dean replacing the man himself, Dean finds in the wild and roaming man a steadiness and certainty his own life has never yet contained. And one day Dean will have to ask, not tell, the shepherd to stay.
