Margo frowns and turns her head to look at Hobie. The older boy continues to walk with his hands stuffed deeply into the pockets of his jeans, which are more denim held together by the barest hint of frayed strings than anything else. Hobie’s eyes pass over her again and he grins. “Don’t worry, I won’t snitch.”
Margo exhales sharply. She and Hobie were never too close. He and Gwen spent more time together, and she spent more time with Lyla than anyone else; they were cool with one another, she supposes, but not this cool. “You quit, there’s no one for you to snitch to.”
Hobie shrugs, always so flippant and nonchalant. “So you did? You let him go.”
Margo struggles and, surprisingly, Hobie helps.

Damian thinks of Grayson, and the too-sweet donut he had given him, and the Chinese restaurant with the nice Asian lady and the park and the stray cat that had crossed through the grass in the darkness.
“No,” he admits grudgingly, “I suppose not.”

He’s far too busy with grueling practices, demanding courses, and an insanely complicated family life to spend time on foolish things like cute guys or, god forbid, romance. He needs to keep his head in the game so he can lead his team to their fourth national title in five years, thereby ensuring he doesn’t make a fool of himself or make his team regret voting him in as the youngest captain their university has ever seen.
