In a moment of hesitation while her hand hovered over the doorbell, Billy found a part of her tempted to bail and retreat to the familiarity of her own home. That had been the original plan after all, to seclude herself in the safety of her room and hopefully dodge a patricide charge by structuring her days to whittle the amount of times she had to interact with that asshole as far down as feasibly possible. Lose all hope for summer that wouldn't be totally lame.

Stu didn’t think he nailed fake sincerity there but Billy seemed to have caught his drift if the way he tentatively nodded along said anything, “Right.”
