Summary
Paul almost turns on his heel, ready to walk right back out of the WC and apologise for not knocking, before he realises two key things. One: Ringo has his arms wrapped around him such that both hands are visible, curled up around his sides. Two: he hardly ever bothers with an STP anyway, and especially not on tour.

Summary
It takes ages, and several well-timed mentions of, in no particular order—their all being trans; Ringo being demisexual; John having a laundry list of DSM diagnoses; George’s horde of siblings (never mind that his parents are doing alright)—but they finally get signed.
[OR: The year is 20 *mumble mumble* and the Beatles are the next big thing. They're having a totally normal, precedented time. Also, they're all trans nerds.]

Summary
“SHIT!” John shouts, as the drums come in on the master tape. He turns on Ringo. “What the hell are you doing there?”
Ringo blinks wide blue eyes at him. “Er—just putting it into three, I thought.”
John—who knows as much about the technical side of music as any of them, including Ringo—stares at him momentarily. Paul shifts uncomfortably, ready to talk him down, but—
“Gear,” John says, through a massive grin. “Sounds good.”

Summary
To say there aren’t usually people hanging around outside the Dakota would be a lie, but they’re usually conscious and fidgety and watching the doors, not curled up at the foot of a pillar. Nine past nine by John’s watch, which is surely a sign from something, so he lets his feet carry him by impulse to the small ragged figure.
“You alright?”
The figure stirs and looks up, revealing a startlingly young face. A pinched, underfed look but unmistakably no more than eighteen. The younger ones always make his heart pang a bit; he almost never has any cash on hand to give them. Besides, people tend to recognise him.
January, 1979. John and Yoko are on the outs, but are keeping up appearances. John doesn't mean to quasi-adopt a random teenager; it just sort of happens. Also, Paul and Linda are due to be Winging their way over to NYC soon. This doesn't have any implications vis-à-vis John's heterosexuality and/or monogamy.
[Househusband era in NYC. Accidental teenager acquisition. Things (surprisingly) work out.]
(There's briefly going to be some weird stuff going on with the chapter numbering as I make some revisions!)

Summary
A quick inventory, a mental patting down of his pockets: one, this is his room. Two, the last time he took lysergic was yesterday, so he's definitely got his head on straight right now. Three, Paul is sitting on the edge of John's bed in the lamplight, looking melancholy and red in the face.

Summary
“That the type of shit you sing to Linda, then?”
Yeah, there it is. Paul taps out a chromatic scale, still hiding behind the guitar, and decides for once to be honest. “Not really, no.”

Summary
“Okay, fine.”
The fight doesn’t leave John, but it does twist into annoyed confusion. “What?”
Paul shrugs. The fight does leave him: drains out of him like water out the bath, washes away all the adrenaline and laying bare the exhaustion underneath it. “Fine.”
If anything, that makes John angrier. “What do you mean, ‘fine’!?”
Paul misses his bed, misses Martha and Eddie and the lovely feeling of silence. He clasps one hand in the other, rhythmically squeezing, rubbing one thumb across the other forefinger. “I don’t know what you want me to say.”
[OR: Paul’s had enough of arguing.]

Summary
It must have been the beer. That, or the stew they'd had last night—Paul had thought it looked odd, but John'd needled him about being a pansy, and, well—here Paul is, retching in the grotty bathrooms at the Kaiserkeller, while the others keep 'What'd I Say' going without him.
[OR: Paul runs off to be sick during a set. Ringo notices, and goes to check up on him.]

“If you had to choose a name for yourself,” Jet poses, “what would it be?”
(John talks names with the trans kid he's accidentally basically adopted. Purely self-indulgent character work.)

Summary
The dream state slips away from Kirk. He is no longer anchored by tiny points to reality—by the keening call of a hidden bird, by the deeply embedded sense memory of dewy grass folding underfoot, by the prisms arcing off running water. He is awake for the first time in a very long time. He has surfaced for air.

Jeeves as a musician beyond an unsurprising competence on the ivories was uncharted territory, and I could already feel the more musical parts of the Woosterian grey matter straining to draw deeper meaning from his instrument of choice, and batted them back with a less musical stick.
[OR: The one where Jeeves plays clarinet, Bertie plays bassoon, and the Drones are having a concert tomorrow night.]

You see, the thing about Tony Stark is that he never shuts up. This has gotten him into a fair amount of trouble.
It has, however, done him some good, too.
[OR: The one where Tony Stark isn’t alone in his head, and it actually kind of works out.]
