Summary
Nilou clasps her hands. “We think you’re in love.”
“We’re not,” they say. In unison.
Faruzan throws a pillow at them.
“Let me be clear,” Tighnari says, pacing like a professor confronting academic fraud. “You live together. You argue like rivals, care like husbands, and kissed in front of the fridge. You wrote an entire academic paper about each other’s emotional habits.”
“That was a thought experiment,” Alhaitham replies, coolly.
“It had three footnotes about Kaveh’s eyelashes,” Cyno deadpans.
“They’re very symmetrical,” Alhaitham mutters.
In which the thesis is long, the denial is longer, and the sexual tension could power the entire Akademiya.

Summary
“Kaveh.”
“And he—huh? Yes?”
“You do realize that was Alhaitham, right?”
A long pause. “Who?”
Tighnari’s palm meets his face. “Sorry, of course you of all people wouldn’t care to know about these things.” He clears his throat. And then, “Prince Alhaitham.”
A beat. “Oh.”
In which Kaveh is a tailor indebted to Dori, Alhaitham is the Prince of Sumeru, and they meet at a masquerade. Or, a little twist on the Cinderella trope.

Summary
“Is this something we both want?” Alhaitham retreated his lips, and for a brief moment, Kaveh felt himself chasing after him, as if he wasn’t ready to separate yet. Instead, he nodded, sheepishly, his feelings, mind and body battling between being assertive and playful, and shyly accepting Haitham’s advances.
“Tell me,” Haitham frowned, swallowing, “I want an answer this time, Kaveh.”
“Yes, Archons, yes,” Kaveh hissed, “yes,” and, “kiss me, moron,” so Alhaitham did. Maybe just this once, Kaveh could ignore rationality as his eyes shut.

Summary
Tangled in Kaveh’s bed like this, sharing breath, Al-Haitham is once again reminded that he can never get a full read on his friend. He can never anticipate when it ends, and foolishly, despite knowing it always ends, he’d hoped that tonight, it might not end at all. It—this tacit experiment, conducted between the two of them, several nights a week.
The summer before Kaveh is scheduled to graduate, he and Al-Haitham convene in his room at night in pursuit of knowledge.
