That's when the car accident happens, and she wakes up splinted and in pain, in the remote mountain home of her rescuer, Tyler Galpin.

Henry aka Subject 001 finds himself advertently drawn to college student Terry Ives, who is taking part in MKUltra experimentations under Dr. Martin Brenner's close supervision at Hawkins Laboratory. Temptation leads to involvement and eventually, Henry becomes even more desperate to find a permanent way out for himself using a pregnant Terry bearing the special child who will someday save the world, but Brenner's very controlling clutches and obsessive nature for the both of them, especially her, make it rather difficult to break away from his created world of captivity.

Tremours thudded behind her in a slow, relaxed rhythm. Lex didn't want to look. She had a pretty good idea of what she'd see: polished shoes casually thundering after her, eating up distance in a single small shuffle that she broke a sweat achieving. The bean kept talking.

Summary
After the second time a pair of soulmates had ended up in the arena as the last two standing and physically unable to make the killing strike, the capitol added a technicality to the rules. If two soulmates were the only tributes left alive within the arena then they would be granted a pardon. Two victors could be crowned for that year.
Cato enters the arena with his soulmate, watches her die, and finds another one before the games end.
Katniss finds her boy with the bread only to lose him at the last second. She then finds something just as good.
It takes them a while to see the beauty of being soulmates.
