The crowd was loud, the roaring drowning out any other sounds around. They were all cheering for a boy with a helmet.
A boy with a helmet that was basking in it all. His arms stretched out wide, jumping up and down to rile the crowd up more.
He quickly put his visor up, revealing sharp blue eyes but nothing else. Those eyes were scanning the crowd before him, slightly squinted into a smile.
He stomped his foot, the crowd stomped theirs. He stomped his other foot, the crowd stomped theirs. He stomped in a rhythm, the crowd stomping in the same. A loud drumming to a beat that was like no others.
A beat that was his.
A beat that was for the boy called Cherry Bomb.

Summary
Now, Steve wouldn’t be fully lying, but also not the most truthful one could be. He loved his kids and his best friend that he would do anything for, but in some moments he missed the way his brain would become foggy with the smoke that entered his lungs from his beloved lady, the way his heart would race and hands would shake when the inside of his nostril burned harshly, the way even though he was terrified of needles the soreness in his arm was worth the pure euphoria that came afterwards.
Okay, maybe it was more than a few times that he tried them.
Or, the author was sick of people mischaracterizing Steve, so a 7k word fic about his relationship with drugs was born.
