Bobby doesn’t answer right away. He looked over at the bathroom, door still closed, but entirely too quiet to not be suspicious.
“It’s different from them. You know that right?”
“yeah.”
“Your name–Rumi–is trademarked. Your signature can’t be used outside of company merch. They have to approve your hairstyle, clothing, weight range, even your social media posts down to the captions and tags. They screen any food you want to have while doing sanctioned public appearances and have prewritten your bios. No dating scandals obviously.”
Rumi seemed to crumple a little more with every item added to the list.
“And if a sponsor sees you without your makeup on a bad camera angle, we lose ten million and your stylist gets chewed out. But Rumi,” he sighs and rubs his head. “Your body- your skin,” he corrects, “your health, your blood– that’s still yours.”
Rumi knows he’s leaving out a few things. Her own contract was one hundred and seventy three pages long, but this. It helped.
