Summary
“Congratulations, Mr. Harrington, you’re officially in remission.”
Steve had been waiting for three years to hear that.
Yet…
Right now as he sits in those crappy hospital chairs that over the past few years he had become all too familiar with (although he was never able to find the right position to get comfortable), he doesn’t feel happy. Maybe not unhappy but just the absence of happiness. Like a gaping hole in his chest. An empty void in the place of where his heart should be.
The thing was Steve is and always will be a fighter, whether it be reluctant or not. He had played his part in saving the world multiple times. He had stood up faced evil and didn’t blink. He was brave - is brave.
But three years ago Eddie had felt a lump. And he had given up.
x
After battling cancer for three years, Steve is in remission. It’s all he wanted, right? So why isn’t he happy? Why doesn’t it feel deserved?

“N-no, Eddie, I-I didn’t see it – I should’ve seen it,” He wailed, throwing himself into Eddie’s chest.
“Henderson, hey, talk to me, what didn’t you see?” His voice was weak, begging the child for answers but the arms that held him were strong, protective.
“D-Demogorgon,” Dustin whimpered before abruptly pulling away from the older man, “I didn’t see it, Eddie… b-but S-Steve… Steve did.”
or

Summary
Eddie Munson and Steve Harrington had been best friends since they were 5.
Although you wouldn’t know that if any passersby saw them interact within the walls of Hawkins High. If anything, you’d say the opposite. They were cold, mean and on edge. Steve and his friends often ganged up on him, calling him slurs (although Steve would never been seen participating in that) and teasing him for being different.
Again, the other students thought this to be normal – just the way it was – which made them overlook the face of guilt and disgust embedded in Harrington’s whenever he would let his friends act that way, let himself act that way.
Eddie took it though. He always did. But he hated every second of it.

Steve Harrington died in that glorified prison cell, on a random Monday, with unraked leaves covering his backyard and a pile of books on teaching on his bedside table, beside a photograph of his family.

Unsurprising considering how much time they've spent there, both preferring the comfort of Eddie's trailer, to their own houses.

Summary
The car came around the corner both suddenly and in slow motion at the same time.
Steve saw the headlights, registered it approaching at speed, heard the blare of the horn, but it was as if he was watching from far away, not in his body. He stood stock still even as his brain screamed at him to move.
The impact knocked him down, sending him lurching across the surface of the road, skin giving way against asphalt, and suddenly he was in a dry lake bed being dragged across rough ground like a fish on a hook.

Summary
He feels so weak that he can’t even move his head when he hears the door opening.
There is a strange metal sound and two people speaking so softly that he can’t understand what they are talking about.
“Oh… Stevie…”
He doesn’t open his eyes. He knows that voice and he can’t face that kind of nightmare right now. Even if there is something sad in the voice he knew that he can’t open his eyes.
“Stevie, please, can you look at me? Just for a second. Just to let me know that you are not dead yet.”
The voice is pleading so sweetly, but he won’t. Sorry.Bookmarked by jjosephmmunson8
