He brings Steph because she had read the other book.
She brings Jason because he's good at ranting about books.
He brings Dick because he had the same teacher Damian has now.
He brings Barbara because she saves her old assignments.
She brings Duke because he's the only A+ student.
Bruce doesn't contribute much but they let him join because he wants to spend time with his kids.

Tim shot him a confused look. “Why are you out patrolling then?”
Jason took off his helmet and stared dryly at Tim.
Tim rolled his eyes beneath his domino. “Ah, of course.” Tim raised his arm to cover half his face, Robin cape draped over it and growled, “I am Batman. Crime never sleeps,” in a mock imitation of Bruce.
Jason huffed. “Fuckin’ - no.” He crossed his arms. “Don’t compare me to B!”

Bart sped to the window and stared out of it, frowning at the starless void beyond. “A pocket dimension? Teleportation? Ooh, or it could be multiversal travel.”
