“I know.” Eddie grabs for the butterknife and starts the precarious process of raking away the black streak without fucking up his masterpiece beneath. “We’ll look for a house with a bigger kitchen on Zillow after the bake sale.”
Buck makes a funny noise, like a raccoon caught in the trash. “What?”

Eddie buys a new house, battles with the homeowner's association, omits the truth, almost dies, and during the process realizes yeah, he's a little bit in love with his best friend.

“What’s it like?” he asks softly.
Buck tips his head to the side and meets Eddie’s eyes, lazy and buzzed and pretty. “What’s what like?”
Eddie swallows, face prickling red with heat, and says, “Fucking a man.” The worse taste weird on his tongue, foreign but good. Welcome, like it’s time or something. “What’s it feel like?”

Eddie does know. Christopher asked him something about Halloween; one thing led to another, and they stayed up way past bedtime to get to the bottom of it. They went to school and work raccoon-eyed and tired, but knowing the origin of jack o’lanterns.
“No, I didn’t,” he lies, grinning at Buck across the island. “Tell me about it.”

Chim pulls a face. “I’m always on your side, man,” he insists, sniffling as if he’s been truly hurt, and then breaks out in a chuckling fit. “What does Chris think about the mustache?”
Eddie shrugs, reaching for his orange juice once again. “He hasn’t seen it yet,” he replies, “but the guy I’m seeing likes it. Like, really likes it.”
“Mm, I see,” Chim says, not seeing. “Run that part back again for me.”

After coming out as gay, finally, Eddie has a well-deserved hot girl summer witnessed by his closest friends and family. Everyone is supportive and encouraging, except for Buck. What could that possibly mean?
