Summary
“He treats you like a pet,” Nacho said. Your face said it all in a split second–shock from the insult and the accusation--disgust at Nacho being the one to say it and, worse than all that, shame.
“Speak for yourself,” you replied, trying to hurt him back but figuring the remark would have no effect. To your surprise, Nacho’s head snapped back a bit like he’d been stung.
“You don’t know what you’re saying,” he said softly but seriously, those big fawn eyes locked on yours, his arms crossed tight over his chest.
“And you do?”
He lifted one hand and patted it against the fridge, then left it there. “You’re so clueless. Lalo wants it that way for a reason. A lot of reasons. I don’t think you have any idea of who you’re actually dealing with.”

Summary
“Sometimes change is scary,” Hawk said, moving in even closer so our bodies were touching, the breeze rolling over us again. “But I’ve found that, at the end of things, it’s almost always for the best.”
I smiled and brought one hand up to brush a strand of hair back behind his ear. “That’s true too.”
The sun came out from behind the clouds and shined through the sharp needles and rough branches of the hemlock, pouring down on us as we shared the silence. We were good at that, I realized–just being truly comfortable in the quiet, not compelled to say anything to needlessly fill empty space. Sometimes silence really was golden.

Summary
I wished Hawk was with me. We wouldn’t even need to talk much–just him being there would be a comfort, especially if he didn’t bring up anything related to Laura.
But thinking of just her name made me wish that Laura was there, alive, and walking the trail with me. Teenagers inherently didn’t trust adults–that was a given–but my whole job was to try and foster trust to help them when things were treacherous, and Laura’s inner world seemed to have been extremely treacherous. Her whole world seemed to have been extremely treacherous. When Bobby had flipped out at her funeral, he hadn’t been wrong–we’d all failed her.

Summary
Sam’s plan was working out even better than he’d hoped it would. He figured the guilt-tripping would work, but he didn’t think it’d work this quickly or fluidly; Danny was like putty in his hands. Sam had unearthed the right memories, the right feelings, made just the right jabs to make Danny want to atone and please him. To be friends again.
If only it were really that easy, Sam thought as he got more beers out of the fridge while Danny leaned against the counter, staring at the pictures on the fridge. Sam hadn’t put pictures of the two of them on there until earlier today, when he knew he wanted to set things in motion. Now Danny was studying them like he could crawl back inside the images and live those days over again. Sam had thought the same thing when he’d been pulling them out of the box of keepsakes he kept in his bedroom closet. He’d never been sentimental about anything or anyone except Danny.

Summary
Danny leaned back, one arm slung across the driver’s seat while the other rested on the dashboard. He was as spread out as he could be, taking up space while simultaneously keeping his body so open that Josh knew he could easily crawl over to him and close the gap, share the space with him. He was silent as Josh took his hit, still looking right at him, lips slightly pursed in thought, brows just ever so slightly furrowed.
Screw short-circuiting–Josh had to wonder if he was straight-up tripping when Danny asked, “Do you get horny when you smoke?”

Summary
Nacho took a deep breath, steadying himself. He knew that after this, there was no going back. He gave the words he knew Lalo wanted. “How can I make it up to you?”
Lalo’s eyes glinted in the shadows. “Kiss me. Kiss me like you kiss your whores.”

Summary
You love him, don’t you?
It must be love, what you feel for him, because what other emotion makes a person feel this way? Or maybe it's the drugs that make your heart pound whenever Nacho is around.

Summary
He’s limp, heavy, loose-limbed like Lalo’s never seen him when he’s been conscious. It’s nice. He deserves this. He’s always working so hard. He deserves to rest, por un ratito.
And he deserves to feel good.

Summary
Wanna bet? is a familiar taunt between them; it’s fun, mostly harmless, and Eddie is always happy to take Billy up on it.
But it doesn’t feel harmless right now, and Eddie is way too high to really put his finger on why.
