Eddie kept true to his word and painted his nails jet black. Was it a bit less exciting than Buck and Chris? Maybe. But it couldn’t be denied that it was cool, and that was the whole idea, wasn’t it? This whole thing was to show up Richard the super dad at Chris’s school. But if the only reason Eddie was doing this was out of spite, why couldn’t he stop staring at his nails, and why did he feel this welling of something inside him?
OR Eddie wanted to paint his nails for petty reasons. It's simply part of his (maybe one-sided) rivalry with another single dad at Chris's school. But why does it feel so freeing when before it felt so wrong?

Summary
Years before joining the 118, Buck’s travels take him to El Paso, where he meets Christopher. When Eddie comes back from Afghanistan and Shannon leaves, Buck ends up staying. As bills pile up, the best move is for them to get married, just for convenience, they’ll divorce when Eddie comes back from his re-enlistment.
Then Eddie gets injured and it’s just easier to stay married for a little longer, while Buck gets started at the 118. However, Buck doesn’t mention his ‘husband’ and kid, not feeling like they’re his to keep. When Eddie gets the offer from Bobby, they decide to lie and pretend they don’t know each other, so they can work together.
The whole lie gets out of hand as feelings start to become real, until it all comes to a head in the aftermath of the fire engine explosion.
AKA: Secret marriage of convenience buddie slow burn AU, where Buck and Eddie have been married for years so Buck could adopt Chris and no one at the 118 knows.

Buck realizes that it takes a village to raise a child when a baby girl is left on his doorstep. Left with a note that tells him she's his, Buck tries to do the right thing and step up to the role that was given to him, finding himself responsible for taking care of an entire human being who is depending on him.
And with Eddie's help, who is on his own journey of healing and self-acceptance, they both learn about the readymade family they've always had as they end up co-parenting their children together and becoming something more.

Summary
Spring had officially sprung in Los Angeles, and baby fever infects one of LA’s finest, one firefighter Eddie Diaz.
He couldn’t stop thinking about having a kid with Buck if he tried, and maybe the universe doesn’t want him to based on the countless cute babies that keep winding up in his big arms.
Not that he believes in that kinda thing.
But he can’t tell Buck that, he could never ask him to leave work for nearly a year, so soon after he literally lost his mind. So he does the normal thing and keeps it in the same mental lock box he used to keep his feelings for Buck in.
Meanwhile, somethings up with two out of three of Bobby’s kids and he needs to get to the bottom of it.
(AKA the 6A rewrite where Buck is pregnant instead of doing that donor storyline, now fully complete + epilogue)
