Chapter Text
That night went just as expected.
Ren had Doc pinned to his bedroom floor. Luckily for Doc, he prepared for something like this and had a pillow shield in hand. Said pillow shield was being used to protect himself from Ren's bite. Good thing this particular pillow wasn't his favorite, it'll definitely be ruined by night's end.
Ren would eventually come back to his senses, getting off of Doc and spitting out pillow stuffing.
"You feeling better?" Doc asked, lowering the ruined pillow.
"Still feel like crap. Pillows don't taste good, hope you know that," Ren replied.
"Wouldn't think so," Doc laughed.
"Don't laugh, you practically shoved that thing into my mouth!"
He laughed harder. "Not my fault I was trying to protect both myself and your mental health."
"It would have done nothing towards my mental health."
"Ren, last time this happened you tore my arm to shreds and fell apart. Don't tell me it wouldn't have done anything," Doc pointed out.
"Fine, it probably would have done something," Ren admitted, crossing his arms.
"Yes, now let's get you back in bed." Doc got up off the floor and held a hand out towards Ren. He took it and Doc pulled him, wincing a bit as his shoulder was still sore. "Sorry."
"Don't worry about it," Ren said, getting into bed. "Night, dude."
"Goodnight."
—
Ren was in the middle of the street, facing towards someone. He could recognize them from a mile away.
"Martyn!" Ren said, overjoyed. "I haven't seen you in forever, dude."
He went in to give him a hug but immediately stumbled when he felt something stab his shoulder. Ren looked down at the dagger in his shoulder then back to the person who put it there, being met with glowing purple eyes. "Martyn? What are you doing?" Ren asked him, confused and concerned. He didn't notice when the streets shifted to a rooftop, full moon above them.
Martyn didn't reply as he picked Ren up by his shirt collar and brought him over the edge. Ren had tried to struggle, but just held on to Martyn's arm when there was nothing below him but the sidewalk on the ground.
Tears started to roll down Ren's cheeks as he knew what was about to happen.
"Martyn, please don't do this," he tried to plead, but it did nothing.
Martyn let go of Ren's shirt and he fell.
—
Doc was in the kitchen making breakfast and drinking coffee when he heard a thump coming from Ren's room.
Turning off the stove, he headed over to Ren's door and knocked. "Ren? You ok in there, man?" Doc asked.
No one replied, so he opened the door up a bit more to see what happened. Opening the door revealed Ren curled up on the floor, tail wrapped around his leg, white knuckle gripping his hair, trembling, and tears streaming down his terrified face.
At the sight Doc immediately went over to him and sat on the ground in front of him. "Ren, I need you to take a few deep breaths for me ok," Doc said, as calm as he could. He carefully placed his hand on Ren's head, gently rubbing his thumb up and down and doing deep breaths.
Ren flinched some at the contact, but didn't try to move away. Instead he loosened his hold on his hair a bit and tried to follow along with Doc, taking a few shaky breaths before leveling out. "Good, now can you tell me where we are?" Doc asked him.
"I-in my room," Ren answered, stuttering a bit.
"Correct. Can you tell me something that you can smell?"
"Bacon," Ren answered again, finally letting go of his hair.
"Makes sense. Last thing, something you can feel."
"Your hand."
"Good job. Feeling any better?" Doc asked, still rubbing Ren's head with his thumb.
"A bit," Ren answered, wiping away the stray tears on his face.
"Need a hug?" Doc asked. Immediately getting the breath knocked out of him as Ren wrapped his arms around him. Doc held him close, rubbing circles into his back. "So…mind telling me what happened?"
"Just fell off the bed after a nightmare," Ren answered, trying not to think too much on what happened. "Hey Doc."
"Yes?"
"Can I help you make breakfast?"
"Sure you can," Doc said, a small smile on his face. "We just need to get off the floor first."
"Fine by me."
With that they both get up and head towards the kitchen. Doc resumed making breakfast, with Ren, and they enjoyed a nice meal of bacon and omelets.
