Chapter Text
It had been weeks since Olivia had seen Cole and then discovered he’d gone undercover. She hadn’t quite believed Diaz when he’d told her Cole would be under for a while but it had been almost a month. She was past the anger and the annoyance, now she just missed him.
She’d taken to wearing his gold chain underneath her clothes. It’s a little heavier than her usual necklaces but it’s hardly a deadweight. Fin had caught a glimpse of it the other day and hadn’t stopped ribbing her since; even Munch and Elliot had joined in much to her displeasure. It didn’t make her miss seeing Cole and his stupid face any less.
“Ugh,” Olivia groaned as Fin leaned close, eyeing the gold chain playfully. The scent of his cologne was so strong, she wanted to douse him with a fire hose.
“Loverboy back yet?” Fin asked and she knew he was only asking because Olivia had been so damn moody. She could tell she was getting on everyone’s nerves, especially Elliot’s but she was trying to rein it in.
It didn’t help though that she’d cried at a damn Kleenex commercial the night before and had no idea why. Something was seriously out of whack and she wondered if it was just that Cole had been gone for a month now with no word. She was worried about him but knew better than to try and ask Diaz or his squad for any information, she knew they wouldn’t give her anything. No matter how damn serious they were.
Olivia shook her head, throwing a playful glare Fin’s way. “Not yet. Soon, though,” Olivia told him lightly, hoping that’d be enough of his ribbing. She stood up then, heading for the women’s restroom for the fourth of fifth time in the last few hours. She was starting to worry she had a UTI with how often she’d needed to pee lately, it really was quite irritating.
Elliot looked up from his desk with a frown. “You okay?” he asked quietly, no mockery in his tone, just concern.
Olivia nodded and gave him a weak smile. “Yeah. I’m just…not feeling well. I think I’m getting sick,” she told him easily. Something was wrong, she just didn’t know what.
.
.
Olivia looked around the park curiously. She didn’t know how she’d gotten there. It wasn’t a park she’d been to before but she could hear children playing happily at a nearby playground. She stopped to stare at it for a moment, wondering if she was here for a case… Except, she patted her sides, she didn’t have her gun or badge on her and Elliot was nowhere in sight.
She was just about to turn to leave, unsure why she was there.
“Mama!” a happy voice called out in her direction. When she turned Olivia’s eyes zeroed in on a little boy with Cole’s curly hair and her smile, toddling right to her.
OH. She felt it instantly, he was her son. Immediately she squatted down just in time for the little boy to tumble into her. He giggled happily and Olivia could feel the wide smile overcome her own face.
“Play,” the little boy insisted, practically tugging her towards the playground. Olivia let him take her hand and lead her, happily, eagerly.
A piercing blare hit her ears and when she looked up, away from the little boy, she gasped -
the world had gone dark and Olivia realised she was in her bed, hugging Cole’s pillow to her tightly. She sat up quickly, pressing a hand to her chest, then ran it through her hair, still groggy with sleep. Her eyes darted around the room, expecting to see her little boy but then she remembered she didn’t have a son.
An unusual wave of sadness swept over her at the realisation. The little boy must have been a dream but he’d felt so real. She could still feel his solid little hand in hers and the surprising strength of his tugging…
Olivia shook her head, chuckling a little at herself. There was no point being sad about a child that didn’t even exist. Obviously her desires to have a child were just manifesting themselves in her dreams. It was basically the point of dreams, she knew.
Still, even as she lay down to sleep again, Olivia couldn’t shake the feeling that the little boy in her dream was really her son.
