Summary
Tommy stared at the paper in front of him, the ink blurring into a mess as his eyes glazed over. The red marks on his essay looked like a crime scene. Mrs. Carter, his English teacher, had made it clear—if Tommy didn’t improve, he’d be repeating 8th grade. High school would be out of the question. Tommy couldn’t let that happen.
But the thing was, he wasn’t sure how to fix it. English was his worst subject by far. He could barely stay awake in class, and even when he did try, his brain seemed to refuse to cooperate. Books, essays, prompts—it all felt like some foreign language to him. He’d been bad at this for so long, it was hard to believe that even trying might make a difference.
The ticking clock was a reminder of his failure, each second reminding him that time was running out.
“Techno…” Tommy muttered to himself, slumping in his seat. He hated admitting that he needed help, especially not from someone like his older brother. But there was no way around it now. He needed a tutor, and Techno was his best shot. No one else would take him seriously enough to actually help.
