Chapter 1: Introductions
Chapter Text
As far as Stelle was concerned she was just aboard the express.
They had been in the stages of preparing for the jump to Amphoreus and settling in their newest addition to the crew when all of a sudden the world went dark.
“Aghh!”
The gray haired woman shrieked as she landed onto a floor that was very much not the express.
“Oh, shit!”
“What the fu-”
“Huh??? Ow!!”
Various voices of confusion sounded around her, some familiar, others much more foreign.
She groaned in pain before everything went black again.
—
The trailblazer awoke with ringing ears as her eyes adjusted to the light that illuminated her surroundings.
Disoriented, Stelle looked around her in caution.
Much to the Nameless’ relief, she spotted her fellow crew members around her, all in similar levels of confusion.
Dan Heng and March 7th lay beside her both with a hand to their heads and groaning with dulled pain.
Looking to her left, she spotted Welt, Himeko and Sunday looking around the room from where they were sitting on the floor, Welt with a hand on his cane for support.
‘...Yeah, I'm definitely dreaming”
“Mr Yang? Himeko?” Stelle called out, catching their attention.
“Stelle, you're up!” Himeko breathed a sigh of relief, standing up to move closer while golden eyes scanned the space they had woken up in.
The figures to the far side near the wall were unfamiliar to her, but none seemed to have
regained consciousness yet so she pushed that concern to the back of her mind for now.
Stelle pushed herself up on shaking legs, standing to face Himeko.
“..Where are we?”
She had to blink a few times to regain her bearings.
“This isn't one of Penacony's dreams again is it?” Stelle smiled almost dumbly, rubbing her eyes as if waking up from a long nap.
The navigator leveled her with an amused stare for her comment as soon as she reached her.
“I think we both know the answer to that, Stelle.”
‘Okay, so maybe not a dream. Sunny boy wouldn't do that to us anyway!”
Stelle huffed a sigh, before turning her head to look at Dan Heng and March 7th still laying on the floor.
“Uhhh, what about those two? Should we help them up?”
Himeko smiled, patting the gray haired girl on the shoulder before speaking kindly.
“That would probably be a good idea,” she spoke, walking closer to where the two were.
“I can get March and you Dan Heng? Let's get everyone up and about before we discuss what's going on”
“On it, Himeko!” Stelle clapped her hands together, crouching down to shake Dan Heng and snake a hand under his arm to pull him into sitting.
He answered with a groggy blink of his eyes before speaking.
“Stelle?” He murmured with confusion evident in his tone. “Where are we? What's going on?”
“Don't ask me!” She huffed, yanking him up onto his feet. “We'll talk with Himeko and Mr Yang once March is up.”
Dan Heng swayed a little but quickly gained his balance, turning to see Himeko already standing with March.
The pink haired girl leaned slightly into the older woman's side with a hand to her head, clearly still dazed from the fall and subsequent waking up.
“Now that everyone's on their feet, let's see if we can get out of here.” Himeko paused in her words as she led the younger of the crew forward to where Welt and Sunday stood in conversation. “..Wherever here is”
“March, Dan Heng” Welt called out, his cane clinking against the floor as he turned to face the approaching group. “Thank Aeons, you two are finally up. We were just starting to get worried.” The relief clear in his voice matched the small smile on his face.
March bounced forward, all drowsiness forgotten. “Mr Yang! Do you know where we are?”
From next to the brown haired man a familiar voice spoke up with a nod of his head. “This seems to be some sort of memory made by remembrance, possibly the doing of a memokeeper”
Stelle turned her gaze on Sunday, the newest edition to their Astral Express. “What someone from the garden of recollection may want with us I'm not sure about, but it may have something to do with those people over there”
The winged man nodded his head to where that unfamiliar group of people lay, still seemingly unconscious.
“Should we wake them up?” Dan Heng spoke up from next to Stelle. “If they're here with us it might help to see if they have any knowledge”
“What if they're aggressive though?” March piped up to which Stelle answered with a smirk.
“They will be no match for the Almighty Galactic Baseballer and her trusty bat!” She declared dramatically.
Himeko chuckled while Dan Heng rolled his eyes.
“Alright, Stelle” The red haired woman stifled a laugh. “How about you and Dan Heng go and wake them up, keep safe though”
Stelle giggled with an “Okay, Himeko!” while Dan Heng nodded with a sigh at his friends' antics, moving to follow her to where the foreign group was.
The duo cautiously walked towards the far wall, stopping a few metres away to take in the sight.
Eight people lay in the group in front of them, all unconscious apart from one green haired man at the back.
Stelle shrieked when she met his cold gaze.
“You're awake!”
The man raised an eyebrow but caution was clear in his expression.
“Who are you people? Why was I brought here?” His eyes narrowed, observing the two before him as his hands reached for a weapon he didn't have.
“Ah! We are of the Astral Express and as for why we are here… we don't actually know…” Stelle chuckled sheepishly upon seeing his guarded expression. “We were kind of hoping you would know..”
“And why should I believe you?”
Dan Heng answered before Stelle could spew whatever nonsense she was no doubt thinking of.
“You have no reason to, but nothing good is going to come out of doubting each other when nobody knows what we were brought here for.” He turned blue eyes onto the people who still lay unconscious. “Would you be able to wake your companions up so we can figure out a course of action?”
The man huffed but obliged, seemingly seeing reason in Dan Heng's argument.
First he tapped the woman who lay nearest to him, her gold hair somehow perfectly in place despite crash landing onto a hard floor.
She startled slightly, eyes shooting open as she turned to look at the offender.
“Anaxagoras?” she uttered, a tinge of distaste and confusion laced in her voice.
Her eyes were dull and face almost expressionless.
“Where are we?” Golden eyes scanned her sleeping companions before turning on Anaxa.
“We don't know, Goldweaver,” he shot back. “now if you could wake up your Chrysos heirs so we can make some sense of whatever's going on”
She locked eyes with Stelle but didn't pay any attention to them for the time being, instead she turned to wake up the sleeping child next to her with a whisper.
“Teacher, you need to get up.”
“Hmmm… Agy?” The red haired girl murmured, groggily. “Where…”
Aglaea shook her head, helping the girl into a sitting position. “I don't know. Right now we should focus on waking everyone up and discussing our options.”
Her golden eyes landed on Stelle and Dan Heng again, seeming to properly register their appearance now.
“You two.. don't look to be of Amphoreus. What are your goals with us?” Aglaea questioned apprehensively.
Dan Heng startled slightly at her words. “Amphoreus..?” he muttered before shaking his head and answering. “We are just as confused as you, we came over hoping your group had some knowledge about why we were brought here”
Aglaea nodded at his answer as the red haired girl woke the rest of the group up.
“If you can be trusted, then there is no harm in trying to figure a plan out” She casted one more glance on the waking group before turning to the trailblazers with a hard stare. “However, if any malice is sensed I will not hesitate to protect my companions.”
Dan Heng smiled slightly. “Likewise, Miss..”
“Aglaea, the Dressmaster of Okhema”
Stelle piped up for the first time since Aglaeas awakening.
“Stelle, of the Astral Express. And this is my companion Dan Heng”
She spoke with a smile and wave. Eyes scanning the now awake foreigners.
Dan Heng turned his head and called the remaining members of the crew over. Before facing the blonde woman again.
“Do you know why we may have been brought here, Lady Aglaea?”
The Dressmaker answered with a shake of her head. “There may be people willing to trap the Chrysos heirs but why you and your companions would be dragged into it aswell is beyond my knowledge”
Stelle tilted her head in question. “Chrysos heirs?”
Aglaea blinked in confusion before the pieces seemed to slot in her head. “You… are from beyond the sky, correct? Chrysos heirs are a group of golden blooded heros on Amphoreus. We can explain in detail after we get our bearings with the current situation, guests from afar”
Dan Heng simply nodded as the remaining people walked over. Welt, Himeko, Sunday and March joined the gathering group.
“I trust everything is okay, Dan Heng and Stelle?” Welt questioned the Trailblazer, eyes scanning over the Chrysos heirs in question.
“Unfortunately, none of us have any idea of the reason behind our summoning here. However we do know this space is made of some form of memory, we haven't made any progress on a form of exit, though”
Anaxa spoke up from where he leaned against the wall.
“A memory? How interesting. Well sitting here, mopping will do nobody good” He pushed his body off from the wall stepping closer to where the group of Nameless stood. “Perhaps introductions would help us familiarise ourselfs?”
“I didn't take you as one for social interactions, Blasphemer”
“Spare me the tounge, Woman. I'm merely trying to make sense of our predicament.” Anaxa spat back, before clicking his tounge and looking at the Nameless.
“Well, guests from beyond the sky?”
“Introductions would be good, yes” Himeko smiled before scanning the appearances of each unfamiliar person.
“I am Himeko, Navigator of the Astral Express and a Nameless”
“Welt Yang, member of the Express”
“March 7th!, also a member of the Express”
“Dan Heng.”
“Galactic Baseballer!” Stelle called out wich earned her a flat look from Dan Heng.
“Ughh, fine. Stelle of the Astral Express”
“Sunday, a passenger of the Express”
A new voice spoke up as a White haired man stepped forward.
“Sorry for the interpretation, but what exactly is the Astral Express?” he rubbed the back of his head, blue eyes glinting with a sheepish expression.
Welt seemed to startle slightly at his appearance, eyes widening just a fraction but he regained his composure so quickly Stelle almost thought she imagined it.
“Ah, the express is a train that traverses between worlds. Anyone can board regardless of agenda or intentions.” Welt coughed, hand tightening on his cane. “We were just about to set off on our journey to Amphoreus before we got transported here.”
“Between worlds…?” the man murmured to himself in disbelief before blinking and meeting Stelle's eyes.
“Ah, right! My name is Phainon of Aedes Elysia!” he smiled so brightly it was almost blinding.
“Mydeimos, crown prince of Kremnos. Just call me ‘Mydei’” A tall, blonde, tattooed man spoke up from next to Phainon.
“We are Tribbie!”
“I am Castorice.”
“My name is Hyacine, and this is my good friend and assistant, the little pegasus Ica!”
“Call me Cipher.”
“Anaxagoras”
“Aglaea, the Dressmaster of Okhema”
Himeko smiled at the people before her. “I hope we can all be comrades in this situation and find a solution soon.”
Welt nodded in agreement. “We all have our duties to attend to and I imagine Pom-Pom will be quite distressed to see everyone has disappeared.”
“Oh that won't be a problem!” A voice sounded from behind him making everyone startle and turn to the cause.
Blonde hair flowed off the person's shoulders and their blue eyes held a sparkle in them. “Time passes differently here, after all!” They spoke with a small giggle in their voice, unsettling the Chrysos heirs.
“Who are you?”
Someone's alarmed voice rang out but it was impossible to tell who with the impressive scream March let out.
“I'm the person who gathered you all here!” They tucked a strand of hair behind their pointed ears. “I'm not here to hurt you, no I just need you to watch some… memories.”
Their expression turned serious suddenly, catching everyone off guard. “I know it's unbecoming of me to kidnap you but I did what's necessary for the universe.”
Stelle narrowed her eyes on the perpetrator. “But who are you?”
“Merely a Remembrance pathstrider if you will!” The blonde's cheerful, teasing tone slipped back into their voice as if flipping a switch. “You can call me, Connie”
Anaxa scoffed. “And why should we do what you say?”
“Well it's not like you have much choice.” They waved their hand, creating two doors on the walls. “I wish no harm but this needs to be done. Barely 10 minutes will have passed in your worlds by the time this all ends anyway.”
“This room is for what I need to show you” Connie gestured to the left door and it swung open showing a room with a large television on the wall and many seats around.
“This room is for your basic needs, sleep, privacy, relaxation blah blah” They then waved their hand to the right door and it again swung open revealing a corridor leading to fourteen separate bedrooms.
With another wave of a hand a rather large kitchen appeared between the two doors, they cast another gaze on the group. “Himeko, Phainon and Stelle are under no circumstances allowed to cook”
Stelle gasped in offence. “What! Why me!”
To that Connie merely gave them a glance before speaking again. “Viewing will begin in an hour, so don't kill each other, don't try and kill me because, trust me, you won't get very far.” They paused considering their words. “Well maybe apart from Welt, but still don't do it. Food is unlimited, perks of being in a literal memory I guess.”
With that they disappeared in a burst of blue fire leaving the group to process everything that just happened.
“So.. uh. Popcorn anyone?”
“Not the time, Stelle!”

Aglaea stepped forward, taking control of the situation with practiced ease.
“As much as we may not like it, following their instructions seems like the best course of action right now. We have little knowledge about our whereabouts and no obvious exit”
Himeko nodded in agreement.
“I agree with Lady Aglaea, we should at least have a look around the open rooms for the time being”
March 7th raised her hand.
“What about that room, Himeko?” she pointed to the left door, filled with seating and a large television. “Should we really trust that they will show us…” March paused, contemplating her words.
Welt piped up, placing a comforting hand on the pink haired girl's shoulder. “We should just go along with it for now, March. They don't seem to want to hurt us, at least right now”
“How about we explore those rooms first?” Welt pointed to the right door. “There seems to be one room for each person here”
Several people nodded in agreement. Others more hesitant.
“Shall we meet back here in 30 minutes if no breakthroughs are made?” Aglaea suggested, turning to the unsure group in question.
Phainon nodded, shooting a grin at Mydei.
“Last one there loses, Mydei!” Phainon called, already running to the corridor.
“What? HKS!” The blonde followed quickly, leaving the group behind.
Aglaea pinched the bridge of her nose, mouth tilted up in amusement before beckoning the remaining eleven to follow.
Stelle, Dan Heng and March stood towards the front with Welt, Himeko and Sunday following close behind.
She stepped into a long, white corridor with 14 doors jutting off from it like it would in a hotel.
She narrowed her eyes at the writing on the doors.
“Uh guys, these doors have names on them”
She spoke, stepping closer to the first door written ‘Stelle’ and swinging it open.
The room was relatively large and obviously tailored to her. It had a large bed in the corner and opened to a small bathroom on the side.
It reminded Stelle of her own room back on the express, the girl realised as she walked in.
Stelle looked behind her, out the door, to see everyone opening up similarly set up rooms. Each was obviously personalised to fit their owner.
The gray haired girl stepped out of her room, closing the door behind her and made her way to where March stood in her doorway.
“March! What does your room look like?” she called to her friend, causing her to turn around.
“Look! It even has all my pictures on the wall!” March beamed, pulled Stelle into the room. “This is so weird! Let's go see Dan Heng's”
Stelle nodded and followed her pink haired friend into the room next to them.
The first thing they noticed was the array of books stacked across the wall, Dan Heng standing beneath them clearly in thought.
“Dan Heng!” Stelle exclaimed, causing him to startle and face them.
“Ah, it's you two”
“Who else!” March answered with a grin. “Do any of you guys know how much time we have till we've got to meet with the others?”
The dark haired boy nodded. “Around 20 minutes I'd say.”
“What do you think they'll make us watch?” Stelle questioned curiously. “I mean it can't be that important they literally have to kidnap us!” She paused then continued. “We have been in weirder situations though”
March nodded in agreement. “Yeah but Himeko said to go along with it for now and that blonde lady really scares me so I'm not going to question it at this point”
Dan Heng shook his head with a sigh. “You two really need more self preservation” Their friend muttered before turning to walk out of the room. “We should head to the main room and see if anyone has found anything if they're done”
Stelle and March followed him out the room.
“What do you guys think of those people brought here with us? I mean they said they're from Amphoreus right?” March questioned as they walked. “Do you think this thing has something to do with Amphoreus? It is somewhere even Akavili hasn't gone before”
“They seem civil enough, none of them seem like they hold any malice. However, we should still keep our guard up.”
The trio quickly arrived in the centre of the room between the two doors, seeing as nobody else was there yet Stelle spoke up.
“Hey uh, Connie?” She called out, not fully expecting them to show.
Much to the three's surprise the blonde appeared before them in that same burst of blue flames causing March to jump.
“You called?”
Golden eyes blinked a few times as if her brain was rebooting but she quickly slid back into her usual demeanour. “Yeah, I wanted to ask what exactly you want to show us.”
Stelle received a smile in response. “Patience, Stelle” They giggled, blue eyes meeting gold. “Your friends should be finished by now, if you want to gather everyone then I can show you”
Stelle nodded and ran to the door which led into the corridor. “Everyone! Connie says to come out!” She shouted before running back to where her friends stood.
Connie's lips tilted up in amusement before they turned to walk into the other room. “Gather in here once you are all ready to watch, I'll be waiting”
—
It took quite a few minutes to wrangle everyone into the room, especially with the hesitation of the unfamiliar Chrysos heirs. But, after a brief struggle of hounding all fourteen people up, they sat on various sofas and chairs all pointed to one screen.
Towards the back on one sofa, Phainon and Mydei sat together bickering quietly amongst themselves. Aglaea sat in a hushed conversation with Tribbie and Castorice on a pillow in front of them, a suitable distance away. Anaxa sat next to Hyacine, face in a scowl, and Cipher sat close to them, sprawled out on her own chair.
The express all sat together, Welt, Himeko and Sunday on one rather large sofa while Stelle, March and Dan Heng sat on the floor with an assortment of blankets.
Connie stood next to the large television in the front of the room, a smile plastered onto their face before she lightly chucked a remote at Stelle.
“This will show you all you need to see and I'll be here at your call to answer any questions.” They told the assembled people before dispersing in those blue flames.
Stelle looked around the room, Aglaea's face was pulled into a thoughtful frown but nobody voiced any objections so she pressed the ‘on’ button.
The screen lit up in a blinding flash of light causing everyone to shield their face in a panic.
By the time the light died down, a video had begun to play on the screen.
[Let's make an exchange, shall we?]
A familiar voice rang out in the room causing a few people to gasp.
[An exchange of memories]
A beautiful picture of the galaxy faded into view as the words continued
[I dreamed of a ray of light, of a crystal chalice]
Many of the people from Amphoreus sucked in a breath at the image shown, unused to such sights
“Wait a second, is that Black Swan's voice?”
[The light that shone from that crystal spoke to me:]
[Listen, to the parable of the stars.]
“Parable of the stars…” Anaxa echoed, clearly deep in thought.
A hand holding many cards appeared.
[The nameless one, the pathless one, arrived from the edge of the wilderness, clad in stellar radiance.]
The scene switched to a flickering candle then back to that hand, now dragging across the assortment of cards under it.
[Go now, march unwaveringly into the solar wind. At the end you will return to my embrace- but march towards the light.]
Black Swan spoke, picking up one of the cards.
“ We don't understand,” Tribbie said from her seat. “What are we being shown?”
The scene then flipped to the words. ‘Nanook. The Destruction.’
Many of the Astral Express crew's eyes widened at that, the scene before them making sense.
“This seems to be a video about.. the aeons” Welt answered, voice tinged with curiosity.
“...Aeons?”
But nobody had the chance to respond before the clip changed again.
The words burst into flames, a golden hand being shown instead.
[Yet that light began to burn, piercing through the clouds as a golden death]
The clip panned up to show the Aeon fully, THEIR golden blood seeping from the gash in THEIR chest.
[Towers crumbled and the people fled, for the sun was soon to set and meet with vicious destruction.]
The Chrysos heirs gasped in shock.
“Titans, what is that?!”
“Nanook, the Aeon of destruction.” Connie's cheerful voice answered around them, despite the speaker's lack of presence.
Lan, The Hunt
[But be not dismayed, O child of the world!]
The Aeon of Hunt was shown on the screen, THEIR bow aimed above.
[The Lux Arrow will descend to purge the wicked abominations. You must follow the traces left behind in the storms wake]
“ Lan, Aeon of the Hunt”
Nous, The Erudition
[The celestial one guards their secrets, plotting out the roots that connect all things. But they are silent, like a shroud of mist at the centre of the universe.]
The screen panned up from the faces of geniuses to Nous THEMSELVES.
“What is that?!” Phainon exclaimed, just as on edge and confused as his fellow Chrysos heirs.
“Nous, the Aeon of Erudition”
[Listen to the silence, and you will know where the stars are resting.]
Yaoshi, The Abundance.
[Let your staff strike the earth, they say, once, and again.]
THEIR face was shown, two arms close to THEM while one stretched further and the other held an orange ball.
“ Woah..”
[The tender sprouts will grow to the sky, and the dew that falls from their branches will rid you of sickness and poison.]
“Yaoshi, the Aeon of Abundance”
IX, The Nihility
“Nihility?” Aglaea murmured. “Nothingness.”
[Blindfold your eyes, they say, that the approaching darkness may strike no fear in you. Let it not burden your soul, nor numb your stride.]
“Is that a black hole??” Someone shouted in alarm prompting a giggle from Connie.
“IX, the Aeon of Nihility”
[Push open the majestic gates, they say,]
Qilipoth, The Preservation
[and lift up the tablets of lapis. Read them aloud- let the fire that forged the bricks and the ones that laid the wall's foundations be known!]
“Is anyone else reminded of the Titans?” Cipher questioned but received no answer.
Xipe, The Harmony
[Then, they say,]
Multiple voices called out
[O you who have reached the end, enter into the paradise that envelops all!]
“IS THAT THREE HEADS?”
[Join the great choir and feast, listen to the beating of billions upon billions of hearts, holding you in their embrace…]
“Xipe, Aeon of Harmony”
[Look upon the courtesans’ extravagance,]
“Aha, Aeon of Elation
[the mariners’ intemperance.]
“Oroboros, the Aeon of Voracity”
[Listen to the infant in the mirror]
“The beauty”
[The waves as the entre the dream,]
“ The Propagation”
[the tipping of the balance,]
“The Enigmata”
[the shapeless prince.]
“The Equilibrium”
[And finally, measure the world against yourself, and take all such things to heart.]
A train cut through the image
[This is the path you should walk, they say, Akivili, depart once more, Akavili!]
“It's the express!” March exclaims from next to Stelle making Dan Heng roll his eyes.
The screen cuts back to Black Swan reading a book.
[Countless shooting stars streak the sky tonight… Should you choose the right one… it will carry your wish to thousands of distant worlds]
The television went dark once again.
They all sat in silence for a few seconds before Connie reappeared in front of them.
“So, any questions?”

Chapter Text
After the initial chaos died down and most of the Chrysos heirs' questions were answered, Connie clapped her hands together to get everyone's attention.
“Now that that's out of the way it's time to show you what I really brought you all here for.” They paused, taking in everyone's expressions. “Amphoreus.”
Before anyone could ask any more, they, once again, disappeared into blue flames and the screen flickered to life where they just stood.
“I don't trust this…” Dan Heng muttered
Welt patted his shoulder reassuringly. “Me neither, but our best course of action right now is to just watch what she shows us.”
The words ‘Golden Epic Trailer - “Amphoreus’ Saga of Heroes” shone on the screen.
“This looks to be about Amphoreus then..” Aglaea muttered, paying closer attention.
[In the legend's beginning, the world was pure chaos.]
“Agy! It's you!”
[Then the gods cast down the Coreflames, and the Titans were born within.]
The scene changed from black to an image of a large, four armed man, holding up a circular stone.
[Three Titans carved the heavens and earth. Three wove the threads of fate. Three molded life with their hands, and three guided calamity's gate.]
The image changed once more to a more detailed picture of that same four armed God.
[The Titans’ blaze enlightened civilizations, and people of all realms thrived endlessly.]
‘So this is Amphoreus’ Stelle thought, her head resting on her palm.
[But the golden age was fleeting, and from beyond the sky came the heretical black tide…]
The Chrysos heirs’ expressions turned solemn at that reminder of the destruction which wreaked havoc in their home.
[Its gloom was darker than death itself driving the Titans to madness, and the mortals to mutual war.]
“Oh, no…” March murmured with a frown that looked foreign on her face.
[Strife broke out across the land, and the stain of blood consumed the light of dawn. As the gods waged war, the sun itself grew quiet in awe. A millennium of divine conflict… left only a shattered world and an age of darkness.]
The screen melted into darkness before starting again.
[The Coreflames flickered and dimmed, and the age of the gods met its end]
Stelle paused the video for a moment.
“Umm, what are Coreflames?”
Aglaea met her gaze before answering.
“The Coreflames are the birthplace of the Titans. Each Coreflame is tied to a certain Titan, maintaining both their divinity and their life.”
[Golden blood fell to the ground, as a distant prophecy resounded… “Flow, golden blood. Flow. Converge into a boiling river that flows to the heroic heirs of this world-”]
The scene changed to gold as an image of Aglaea was shown.
[“Aglaea the ‘Goldweaver’ You must gently caress the holy city's silken web, and harken to the sounds and voices of destiny.”]
The scene changed once again to show doors opening each revealing a red haired girl.
[“There shall be the three-faced messenger traversing through myriad doors, bearing tidings to you from hundreds of worlds.”]
A childish gasp sounded. “Look! It's us !”
[“Anaxagoras the Foolish,]
The scene flipped, showing Anaxa sitting beneath a tree
[has enough knowledge to refute faith, and to stir up a torrent capable of slaying gods.”]
“You flatter me, Aglaea” The man in question said sarcastically, earning him a glare from the woman.
[“Go seek the priest who severs dawn from dusk,]
The scene changed to show Hyacine laying on a tree branch.
Hyacine's appearance made the girl squeak in embarrassment, not expecting to be shown so soon.
[and let the sky become the slumbering cot from which she wakes.”]
The scene changed suddenly, panning down to show Mydei in a sea of red and flames.
[“Make him roar, Mydeimos the Undying. Pierce the enemy's king with Kremnos’ blood.”]
Phainon nudged the man sitting next to him, whispering in his ear. “Look, Mydei! It's you”
Mydei merely huffed in acknowledgement which made the white haired man smile and turn back to the screen.
The screen flashed to show a woman darting about then stopping, revealing Cipher.
[“Set her in motion, Cifera the Fleet-Footed. Command the frozen time to once again flow.”]
The screen panned out, putting on view a girl with her hand up to a background of purple ruins and flames.
[“And that servant of the Hand of Shadow, the daughter of River Styx…]
“Cassie, look it's you!” Tribbie called out, turning to look at the girl in front of her.
Castorice nodded and lowered her head slightly. “It is, Lady Tribbie”
That scene faded into a close up of Castorice.
[“If you grant her the right to embrace, then even frozen death… will sleep peacefully at her fingertips.”]
The scene changed to water, one woman floating in the centre.
[“You will hear the sound of the ocean's abyss reverberate through the storm.”]
Himeko frowned slightly, turning to face Aglaea. “Lady Aglaea, so far everyone shown is present in this room, however this lady doesn't seem to be. Would you mind telling us who she is?” The red haired asked kindly.
“That is Hysliens, a Chrysos heir. Sadly, she passed many centuries ago”
Himeko nodded, turning back to the screen.
“Sorry for asking, but, thank you, Lady Aglaea”
[‘You will see outlanders from faraway realms visiting under the veil of gloom. Until the journey's end, when the Titans of old have all fallen… And the nameless new king ascends the throne, alongside countless heroes…”]
The screen pans to a white haired man facing the screen before he turns away and points his blade up to the foe before him.
[“...to embark on the grand mission of deliverance.”]
Mydei grinned at Phainon. “There you are Deliverer”
[I gaze towards the distant future, where the sun shall etch the footprints of humanity…]
The screen flipped again, showing each Chrysos heir closely.
[The children of humankind known as the “Chrysos Heirs” shall pluck the gods’ Coreflames, and once more uphold the world. “The Flame-Chase is a journey of constant loss, among which even life itself holds little value.”]
The camera panned to 4 darkened portraits
[Therefore, we cast even ourselves into the flame-]
That scene burnt up showing an image of all the Chrysos heirs surrounded by white.
[only to inscribe the opening stroke in the poem of creation.]
An infinity sign was shown in the darkness
“Woah!” March breathed out. “It's so pretty! Is that what Amphoreus looks like?”
The screen flickered to darkness before suddenly starting again showing a woman standing in front of a mirror which seemed to reflect the planet.
[Most “Hero's Journeys” in the universe are just dice tosses THEY threw on a whim…]
It zooms in to show the woman's face, her pointy hat lifting up as she tilts her face.
[Will your answer be any different, Amphoreus?]
“Who is that?” Hyacine questioned from where she sat.
Welt tilted his head to look at her. “I believe that might be the true body of Madame Herta of the Genius society.”
Anaxa piped up in curiosity. “Genius society?”
“Ah, right. The Genius Society is an intergalactic organization, whose 84 members are personally selected by Nous the Erudition from across the cosmos” Welt explained, patiently.
“Personally picked by the Aeon, huh”
The screen faded to black again before showing a pink haired girl standing in a field of wheat.
Phainon gasped softly causing the blonde next to him to level him with a questioning glance.
[Of course, this will be a romantic story like none that has come before.]
The television focused on her face as she turned around.
[You think so too, right?]
“Cyrene?!” The white haired man choked out.
“You know her, Phainon?” Aglaea questioned, her attention turned on the man.
“...she's a childhood friend of mine.” He swallowed before continuing. “But she passed away many years ago, why is she being shown in this?”
Most of the room turned their attention on him before Anaxa spoke up.
“Perhaps these.. ‘memories’ will tell us” The green haired man spoke, eyes locked on Phainon. “I say we continue watching.”
As if summoned by his words, Connie appeared in the centre of the room making March jump.
“The next video will play in 15 minutes” They smiled, hands clasped together. “I suggest you use that time to do whatever you need to do. After this video one more will play then it will end for the day, is that okay?”
Everyone nodded with some very loud declarations of agreement namely from Stelle and Tribbie.
Connie smiled before dispersing again leaving behind nothing in her trace.
Aglaea put her head in her hands and sighed before standing.
“I really need a bath…”
—
Everyone split into small groups after the first viewing, Mydei and Castorice went into the kitchen to find out what food they had while Phainon was in conversation with Hyacine, little Ica floating at her side.
Himeko followed Aglaea and Tribbie out of the room while Welt remained seated next to Sunday who had started a discussion with Anaxa.
Stelle and Dan Heng stayed sitting while March left to get food.
“Hey Dan Heng”
“...”
“Dan Heng!!!!” Stelle whined flipping onto her back to stare up at the ceiling.
He sighed and closed his book.
“Yes?”
“What do you think the next video will be?”
She asked, rolling onto her side to meet his eyes.
“Probably more about Amphoreus”
The Trailblazer frowned.
“Why are we being shown videos about Amphoreus though? Do you think something bad will happen on our trip?”
Dan Heng thought for a moment before responding.
“I'm not sure, Amphoreus is a place shrouded in mystery. We know so little about it and they seem to have their own problems.”
Stelle hummed in acknowledgement.
“Do you think that ‘black tide’ is because of a Stellaron or the Destruction?”
“It seems pretty likely from what we've seen, but I think waiting to see what the screen shows us is the best course of action.”
“You're so lame!” She huffed with a fond smile.
Dan Heng moved to refute her but was cut off by March walking into the room, arms full of snacks.
“That Mydei guy helped me find SO much food, guys!”
Stelle's eyes lit up as she laid eyes on the assortment of sweets in her friend's hand. She quickly shot up into a sitting position, smacking Dan Heng.
March moved to sit down with the two just as most people began filing back into the room.
Once everyone was re-seated, Connie appeared in that familiar burst of blue fire.
They nodded towards Stelle. “Feel free to turn the TV on when you're ready. These videos from now on will be going into your future”
They casted one last glance at the gathering before disappearing once again.
Stelle took a breath in, hand clutching the remote.
“Everyone ready?”

Chapter Text
The screen flickered to life once she pressed the button, bright light illuminating the room.
A hand was shown waving a liquid of sorts to bring in the scene.
The camera panned in on Phainon, splashing a golden liquid onto himself.
“Woah! Deliver Boy!” Cipher exclaimed, causing Aglaea to sigh and turn back to the screen.
His face flickered out of view, briefly showing a mask over it before cutting out.
“That was… weird” Phainon muttered, pushing the scene to the back of his mind.
The screen revealed a large statue of a four armed man, holding a large sphere in his hand.
Aglaea then walked on screen, golden threads all around her and a golden apple held in her grasp.
“So.. this is like an Amphoreus introduction?”
A small ball of pink flew past, directing the view to three small children around a pot of gold. A cat tail then came out, swiping some of it and revealing Cipher.
“The master thief, Cipher!” The woman in question called out proudly earning her a disgruntled glance from Anaxa.
The scene flipped to Anaxa with Hyacine then to Mydei sitting on a throne of red shards, holding a glass of something.
Castorice was shown next, clutching a shattering light to her chest in ruins.
A few scenes played, too quick to make out before all Chrysos heirs filled the screen.
“Look, you're there as well Stelle!” March called out.
The screen then focused onto Stelle, standing in ruins with figures around her as a pink blur came bouncing up to her seeming to turn into a quill.
Before anyone could make sense of the situation, Stelle swung the pink quill and the buildings around her all exploded into rubble.
“Woah!”
“What the fuck??”
March turned to Stelle, shaking her violently.
“Since when could you do that????”
The girl shrugged in response, slightly dumbstruck.
A girl reached out and hugged the gray haired girl's shoulders.
The sight prompted another light intake of breath from Phainon and a curious gaze from the Goldweaver.
The scene changed again to show a bright light hitting Kephale's statue, Aglaea standing before it.
Phainon was shown in battle with something until the screen melted into showing Mydei and Stelle in another battle.
Phainon then leaped and attacked the masked monster before the view quickly changed to the three Tribios’
“This is going so fast! I can hardly make sense of it all” Hyacine spoke mostly to herself.
Multiple different scenes played, Stelle, Aglaea and Mydei all flashing before their eyes.
Castorice was then shown leaning to embrace the Trailblazer.
“..how?” The girl murmured, eyes wide as she looked across the room to Stelle.
Multiple members of the express, all excluding March, were shown on a staircase which led up to Stelle at the top.
“We're there as well!”
The camera focused on her face, melting into Phainon as he looked out into a sea of stars and the formation of coreflames.
Stelle held a small golden light in her hand as the camera panned outwards into a lens.
“Isn't that March's camera?” Dan Heng asked aloud.
The camera froze, showing March hugging her hands to her chest, ice forming around her.
The express collectively sucked in a breath, Stelle unconsciously clinging closer to her friend.
The video ended with Herta laying on top of a liquidity looking substance before fading to darkness again.
The room was quiet for a solid five seconds before Stelle turned to March and shook her.
“Was March turning to ice again in that video?” She looked up at Himeko and Welt with worry. “You'd better be okay!”
Welt placed a hand on both the girls shoulders. “I'm sure March will be fine, Stelle”
“So… what happens now?”
The one who asked this question from among the heroes was none other than the servant of death, Castorice, who was facing the Express, eyes still locked on Stelle.
“Presumably, we head off to the private quarters we were given.” The Goldweaver answered, already moving to stand. “Although, people may want to eat…”
Mydei didn't know whether to laugh or cry when all the Chrysos heirs turned to him, instead he just sighed and stood. “Okay, does anyone wish to help me cook”
Castorice shyly raised her hand to which Mydei returned a nod and they walked towards the kitchen, side by side.
Anaxa merely stood up and left, undoubtedly heading to his room. Hyacine shot him a worried look but made no move to interrupt the Professor, and instead stood up to follow Mydei and Castorice into the kitchen, her pegasus trailing happily behind her.
One by one, everyone in the room filed out, most heading to the kitchen area while some went straight to their beds. After a brief meal, courtesy of Mydei, the gathering of people had all split up into their chambers.
Stelle took one last glance around the room before a sudden bout of exhaustion overwhelmed her and she collapsed onto the sheets, immediately drifting off into sleep.
—
When Stelle woke up, she was sure she would find herself back in her bed in the Express.
That was not what happened when she opened her eyes.
“Stelle! Get up, sleepyhead!”
Stelle blinked sleep out of her eyes as she was greeted by far too energetic March, staring at her excitedly from the frame of her door.
She rubbed her eyes a few times, longing to roll back into bed already.
‘Last night was real???’
The girl had already convinced herself this was all some weird dream, probably induced by the weird Penacony snacks she insisted on bringing along with her.
But no this was definitely real.
They were stuck in some freakishly bare space (memory??).
Oh, and apparently being shown the near future!
Stelle groaned, swinging her legs over the side of the bed and hoisting herself up.
March jumped where she was standing, impatient. “Come on! Mydei’s making some sort of pancake they have on Amphoreus and Himeko said that I have to wake you up before eating!
They’ll all be gone by the time we’re there at this rate, that white haired guy was eyeing them, we need to be quick!” She ran forward to grab her friend's hand, dragging her away from the comfort of inviting pillows.
“How do you always have so much energy?” Stelle frowned, letting herself be pulled down the corridor and into the kitchen where she saw everyone already gathered and chatting.
Himeko looked up at their entrance, smiling. “The girls are here” she announced turning to Welt who patted the empty seats next to him. Dan Heng sat on the other side of the empty seats, already immersed in a book while Sunday sat at his side, engaged in conversation with a specific pink haired heir who was wrangling her pegasus back with one hand while he was, very unsubtly, attempting to snatch the food of her plate.
Tribbie handed them two plates of food, a grin on her face. “Eat up, Grayie, Marchie!”
Stelle was briefly confused at the nickname but all thoughts other than food immediately vanished as soon as the breakfast was pushed in front of her.
Golden eyes scanned the kitchen, Mydei and Phainon sat together so close their thighs touched, Stelle noted with a flicker of amusement, as Phainon reached over to grab a pancake from his friend's plate when the blonde's head was turned.
Stelle looked away just as she soon heard shouting, instead her gaze caught Anaxa who was currently in a… staring match?... with the goldweaver. Aglaea herself sat next to the red haired girl and Cipher on her other side, although she sat pressed as far away from the golden woman as the chair would allow and was muttering something about being ‘unable to steal’ under her breath.
Stelle was mildly concerned but, then again, she was friends with Sampo of all people.
The last remaining Chrysos heir, Castorice, was seated a few spaces away from everyone else, much to the Trailblazers confusion. Stelle looked up from eyeing the girl's plate, meeting her purple eyes which already lingered on her form.
Castorice looked away quickly, clearly shy and embarrassed over being caught staring, but Stelle paid it no mind.
She had been gawking herself anyway, there was no room to judge.
Instead, her attention turned back to the freshly cooked food sitting in front of her. Stelle was practically drooling at the mouth as she picked up the golden pancake. Her eyes lit up as she bit into the treat and it was devoured in record time, prompting a suffering look from Dan Heng who had watched her scarf the entire thing down much like a starving animal.
Himeko cleared her throat before addressing the room. “When should we begin the next viewing, or is it best to wait for Connie to appear and tell us?”
March leaned back in her chair to glance into the room they had all been in yesterday.
“Uh guys, there's something written on the screen”
At that, everyone turned their heads to look into the room, reading what had appeared on the screen.
“Downloading?”
A burst of flames appeared before them, revealing Connie standing there once more and now blocking their view into the room.
Stelle jumped, she was never going to get used to this…
“Yep! I need some time to collect the appropriate memories and input them into the screen after all!”
They spoke, waving their hands absentmindedly, then looked at their wrist, which was very much absent from a watch, as if checking the time.
“It should be ready in… five minutes?
Maybe? Eh, I don’t know but you’ll see when it’s done. Bye Bye!”
Stelle blinked a few times at the now absent space where they just stood.
Dan Heng frowned. “Are we really sure that nothing dangerous will happen when it’s finished downloading?”
Stelle hummed in response, shrugging. “To be fair, we are putting a lot of faith that they haven’t permanently kidnapped us or are trying to murder us all.”
“How about we don’t speak like that?” Himeko tried, sighing tiredly. “It’s nerve wracking enough being so unsure about this whole situation.”
“Worst case scenario, we all die horrible deaths here.”
“We know. ”
“That is not helpful!”
“What’s the bar’s progress?”
Aglaea cut through the bickering with a stoic face, and everyone immediately turned to look into the other room.
“It looks pretty much finished.”
Phainon spoke up, before turning to Mydei with a grin.
“Bet I can get to the couch before you can.”
“As if!”
The blonde exclaimed, already sprinting off with Phainon following closely.
Aglaea sighed, rubbing the crease between her brows. “What a spectacle of folly…”
Stelle watched the pair run off, before tugging on her two friends' hands.
“Come on guys, we’ve got to reclaim our floor seats!”
Welt watched the trio run off before turning to Sunday, with a brief glance at Himeko, and walking alongside him into the room and sitting down.
After a few minutes, everyone was seated back in the exact spots they had the day before.
The bar read 99% before it made a distinct clicking sound and turned into a blank, dark screen once again.
Okay, so maybe Stelle was getting slightly nervous at the prospect of watching whatever it is stored on that TV.
I mean it’s not everyday you’re kidnapped and forced to watch your own future on a television screen with a bunch of strangers.
‘ I do wonder what Amphoreus is going to be like though…
PLEASE, don’t be a repeat of Belebog, I definitely do not want to die again…’
Stelle shut her eyes then, with a nervous sigh, pressed the ‘on’ button that she held in her hands.
[Attention, passengers. The Express is about to make the jump. Please be seated and hold on!]
An image of Stelle was shown, eyes closed and leaning back onto a seat.
“This is what was just about to happen before we were kidnapped!”
Welt chuckled. “That’s one way to put it…”
The express soared through space as Stelle walked up to a window admiring the view but also clearly attempting to spot where their destination was.
“Woah…”
Tribbie gaped. “It’s so pretty out there!”
Black Swan walked up from behind her.
[There’s nothing there…]
She stepped off the ground, floating in the air towards the window.
[Confusing?]
Black Swan turned back with a smile before wiping her hand to reveal Amphoreus.
Stelle’s eyes widened on screen.
[The answer lies hidden in the starry sky.]
Stelle mimicked herself on screen, eyes wide much like everyone else around her.
“...It’s beautiful”
[Here it is- the isolated world that can only be seen through the Garden’s mirror…]
[The Eternal Land, Amphoreus]
Phainon frowned slightly. “Why is Amphoreus so isolated from the outside?”
[Woah, it’s in the shape of an “8”!]
Himeko and Welt both chuckled gently.
[As you can see, Amphoreus is surrounded by a mass of chaotic matter that conceals it from the outside world - nearly. Conventional interstellar travel can’t detect its presence, let alone pass by or land on the planet.]
[Yet the Garden, caught a glimpse of this place, and along with it discovered ever-shifting Traces.]
[“Three Paths interweave and fetter Amphoreus, co-authoring the fate of the world.” Ordinary Pathstriders aren’t known to leave traces in the mirror, so if what you said is true…]
[Then this isolated star system must have been home to at least three beings comparable to Emanators.]
“Emanators?” Aglaea asked, taking in the information.
“Pathstriders with power directly granted by the Aeons. They are incomparably more powerful than mere mortals” Welt answered calmly.
“Beings like that being involved in Amphoreus…”
[I would even go so far as to say Aeons THEMSELVES]
“It truly is perplexing for a world with such marvels and being so closely intertried with Paths and Aeons to be so unheard of…”
[For a world to have nurtured such marvels yet still remain unheard of throughout the cosmos? Now, that is hard to fathom.]
[We already know one of the three Paths to be the Erudition…]
[I can reveal the second. In fact, you’ve all seen it just now. It’s the Remembrance.]
“What about the final Path?” Anaxa questioned.
“What other outside forces are so involved in this world's fate?”
[I see. Then it makes sense that a messenger of the Garden would be capable of unveiling Amphoreus for us. What about the final Path?]
[Unfortunately, fate is keeping the third Path a mystery. I don’t know what it is, either.]
“Awhh, man”
[Hidden beneath the brilliance of Erudition and Remembrance, yet possessing enough power to rival the other two Paths. It could be the Equilibrium, the Enigmata, or perhaps the Permanence? I have no clue at all.]
[This white ribbon of light encircling Amphoreus might very well be a product of the three interwoven Paths. Only when Pathstriders of the Trailblaze enter the center of the vortex will its true nature be revealed.]
[Still, we know far too little about the planet.]
[What’s more pressing is finding a suitable landing site. We could end up over an ocean, in a vacuum without oxygen, or worse yet, in the middle of a lava field…]
“Dan Heng’s right. We know so little about the planet, landing will be difficult and dangerous…”
[Have no fear, resilient little me will volunteer!]
[I know you’re fearless even in the face of death, but don’t act recklessly - everyone values you.]
“Awwwwe!!!! Dan Heng, you’re so nice to me!!!”
Dan Heng placed a palm to his forehead, sighing deeply.
“I take back my future words…”
[Looks like someone is all set and itching to get off the train.]
Stelle grinned at the red haired women on the screen.
“We’ve been cooped up for so long! I need a new adventure.”
[...Wait, I think we might be missing someone.]
“Oh yeah! Where’s Marchie?”
“Huh, I thought it was quieter than usual…”
“EXCUSE ME?!”
[Hey, where’s March 7th?]
[She said something about her camera before going back to her room. I haven’t seen her since the warp.]
Welt frowned slightly, holding his chin. “That’s odd, normally March is always really excited about expeditions…”
[That’s not like March. She’s usually the most excited about expeditions. Let’s drop by her room.]
They all walked through the train and up to March’s room.
[March, are you in there?]
[Yeah…]
“Why does March sound so… tired?”
Stelle was getting slightly worried now. I mean it wasn’t like her friend to miss the warp and sound so down…
[Sorry, guys. I don’t know what’s wrong… I just feel really weak after the warp…]
“Don’t tell me I’m gonna be sick for the expedition!”
[Is it motion sickness?]
[Of course not! I’ve been through way more jumps than you ever have!]
“Don’t doubt me Stelle!” March poked her cheek playfully. “I wouldn’t get sick from a warp, I’ve done it plenty of times!”
[Miss Black Swan, could you take a look at the memories in this room?”]
[Gladly]
Black Swan presses her forehead against March 7th’s head, as if feeling the latter’s body temperature…
[...I’m seeing March 7th hit by a sudden bout of weakness in her memories, as if something was weighing on her. The onset of it far too quick to be any kind of sickness.]
[Perhaps it’s the effect of some external stimulus?]
Sunday was briefly caught off guard upon seeing himself on screen but nevertheless agreed with his future self’s words.
[Ahh, why is everyone here!? I should’ve cleaned my room…]
“That’s what you’re worried about?”
Hyacine frowned to herself, intrigued and confused by the girl’s sudden bout of sickness.
[I invited Sunday to help with the diagnosis. He grew up in a star system rich in memoria. When it comes to mental healing, he’s quite the specialist.]
Sunday nodded before using the power of harmony on the girl.
“Woah! I didn’t know you could do that.”
The pink haired Chrysos heir squeaked, turning to Sunday. “It must be amazing for mental healing!”
[You’ve all been to Penacony before. I presume you are aware of how some might find themselves in a Synesthesia Dreamscape after warping to Asdana.]
[I’m guessing this is something similar. Miss March appears to be affected by a certain external stimulus, perhaps a Path, an Aeon, or even… Amphoreus itself.]
Welt crossed his arms, turning to the girl. “But, why is she the only one affected?”
[I agree. That’s likely the case.]
[Why is she the only one affected?]
[There’s no way to tell at this point. It could just be a matter of time before everyone feels unwell.]
[Before we identify the cause, my suggestion is for Miss March to avoid venturing anywhere near Amphoreus.]
Tribbie frowned. “Does this mean we won’t be able to see Marchie in the future?”
“Awwwe! I don’t want to miss out on this expedition.”
[...]
[It’s okay, Himeko. I’ll be good on my own. Go ahead, guys! I’ll catch up once I feel better…]
[Here, Stelle. Take my camera along! I was planning to take photos when we got there, but looks like you’ll have to help me with that now…]
“Make sure to take lots, Stelle!” She announced, turning to the gray headed. “And get all the pretty sights.”
[Three, two, one… Cheeeese–!]
[No–! Not when my hair’s messy. And don’t drain the camera’s battery now…]
[Why don’t we take our discussion outside so March 7th can rest?]
[Yeah, you guys go on ahead. Don’t worry about me! I’ll be back to being my hyperactive and adorable self by the next time you see me. Now don’t forget about those photos, okay. I’ll be checking the camera!]
They all walked outside.
[Do you think March 7th’s past could be connected to Amphoreus?]
“Do you guys really think so?” March murmured, looking to the Express Crew
[No, that’d be too much of a coincidence. I haven’t seen anything related to Six-Phased Ice yet. It’s more likely that some kind of energy on Amphoreus affected her before any of us.]
The girl deflated slightly at that and Stelle patted her shoulder.
“Don’t worry, March! I’m sure it’s nothing serious and we’ll be sure to take lots of pictures for you on Amphoreus!”
[Stelle, I want you and Dan Heng to take the lead in this trailblazing expedition. Are you up for it?]
“So me and Stelle are the ones going on this expedition…”
[Sure, we work well together.]
[I see our adventure in Penacony has helped Stelle grow into an experienced Nameless.]
[Amphoreus is a crucial stop, so everyone on the Express has been roped in to help in some way or another. Venturing into the unknown world is a task perfect for you youngsters. I’m sure you’ll both have each other’s backs.]
Stelle and Dan Heng both nodded, the latter turning to the former.
“I won’t let anything bad happen to you.”
“Right back at you!”
[So we’re… staying behind to take care of the grownup stuff?]
[Chin up, Welt. You’ll get your chance out in the field.]
“Yeah don’t sound so disappointed, Mr Yang! I can’t go either!”
[Someone should be taking care of March 7th, too. I can do that.]
[I’m fine with any arrangement you have for me.]
[Great, sounds like we’re all good! Come with me to the Parlor Car then, you two.]
“We’re getting on to Amphoreus then?”
“I’m kind of nervous about what’s going to happen”
Phainon smiled, eyes locked on the screen.
“I wonder who the Trailblazers are going to meet first?”
[I prepared a backup plan before our departure, but I didn’t count on having to reveal it so soon.]
“A backup plan?” Dan Heng questioned.
[Now that our ground exploration team is assembled, I’ll let the conductor reveal our backup plan.]
[Yes. Seeing how this is going to be a perilous expedition, Pom-Pom and the Navigator have come together to prepare a special trailblazing gift for you!]
[Your~ very~ own~ car~!]
Stelle titled her head in confusion. “Our what now?”
[Our what now?]
[Amphoreus is outside the Interastral Peace Telecommunications' coverage zone, so there’s no chance of remote communication when you’re there.]
“Wait! But what about my dailies!” The gray haired girl wh
ined dramatically.
[Uncoupling and using one of the Express’ cars as your landing capsule is the best way we can ease your exploration. It can also be your safe house once you’re on Amphoreus.]
[The car you’re getting has its own thrusters, so just buckle up, and It’ll take you into Amphoreus and land you somewhere safe.]
[The Express is more multipurpose than I thought…]
[Only in extenuating circumstances~! Don’t go thinking you can detach cars from the Express every which way, alright!]
‘There goes all my plans…’
[Get going whenever you’re ready. Pom-Pom can’t wait to hear about your exciting discoveries!]
“Me neither! I hope you guys take lots of cool pictures!” March exclaimed excitedly.
“Please don’t let this be a repeat of Penacony or Jarilo-VI or the Luofu, just let us have a peaceful and Stellaron free expedition!”
The scene cut to darkness again.
[Car ready for detachment! Three… two… one!]
A lone Express car shot through space, towards Amphoreus.
Most of the Chrysos heirs’ eyes widened at the sight before them, the outside view of their planet and the space surrounding it was something they had never seen before.
“Please just let this go smoothly!” Stelle clasped her hands together in a prayer.
Dan Heng shot her a look and sighed. “You’re going to jinx it.”
[...Mem?]
“What was that?” Mydei questioned, glancing around to see if anyone recognised the sound but was met with equally blank faces.
The express soared through Amphoreus’ sky, in front of the Kephale statue.
The camera then focused on Stelle, being woken up by flashing red lights.
“Well that isn’t good.”
“ Clearly.”
Suddenly, something shot down the car, leaving it on fire and smoking as it crashed down.
“Oh, shit!”
“You did jinx it!”
Aglaea's eyes widened slightly before fixing back into their usual stoic gaze.
Stelle and Dan Heng were shown in the car as it continued plummeting, quickly slamming hard onto the ground.
Himeko threw a hand over her mouth to stifle a gasp while the rest of the Express sat in shock, unable to make a sound.
“...Are they alright….” Hyacine whispered, sounding impossibly loud in the room.
Stelle gulped slightly. “I’m sure we’ll be fine, me and Dan Heng won't die that easily!”
Some time later.
Stelle clutched her head.
[Oof…]
Everyone collectively let out a sigh of relief and March lowered the hand that had been grasping onto her friends’ shoulders.
The camera changed, showing them in a room filled with rubble, then a destroyed corridor.
“That looks like Janusopolis!” Tribbie called out.
Phainon nodded in agreement. “I think me and Lady Tribbie were supposed to go on a mission there later, around the time this should take place I think.”
The Express car sat on top of the rubble, surrounded by flames.
“Yeah… I don’t think you guys are getting that back…”
Stelle then noticed Dan Heng, still unconscious and laying against a pile of rubble.
“Wait! Is Dannie going to be okay?!”
“...Dannie?”
[...Dan Heng?]
Dan Heng is slumped in the corner of the wreckage, his well-being uncertain.
[That was one stylish landing, bro]
Dan Heng turned to Stelle with a deadpan expression.
“Seriously…?”
Wait– you see Dan Heng’s chest rising and falling, proof that life still lingers within him.
[Mouth-to-mouth resuscitation?]
“Do not!” He sounded genuinely alarmed while the other two giggled.
March 7th laughed, leaning on his shoulder. “I’m getting deja-vu!”
You recall the moment you first met Dan Heng and March 7th…
[Yep, this is the way.]
“This is not the way, Stelle, please.”
“Shhh! I’m saving your life here, Dan Heng!”
“I’m alive!” Dan Heng sighed, pressing his hand to his head.
Welt and Himeko chuckled softly behind the trio while Sunday just looked extremely confused.
It’s as if someone is shouting in your ear: “JUST DO IT!” It’s veritably the whispers of the devil. After much hesitation, you finally lean down and…
“Whispers of the devil?” The Professor echoed, looking close to a brain aneurysm. “What is wrong with these people…?”
[...Sorry, Dan Heng.]
“...Why do you look so proud?”
[...Sorry for what?]
[Oh, it’s nothing.]
Himeko smiled softly at the two. "At least you two are safe.”
[Ugh… How long were we out for?]
[You passed out when our car got hit. I blacked out too, but not before dragging you out. It’s a good thing we were in the car, or we would've been crushed to pieces.]
Stelle smiled and turned to her companion. “I owe you one, Dan Heng!”
[...We should try making contact with the Express.]
Neither of their messages sent.
[I guessed as much… It’s no longer working. Looks like it’s just the two of us out here now.]
[Let’s find someplace safe to set up a base of operations first. This statue and the buildings we’ve seen so far point to a civilization here on Amphoreus…]
[We can only hope they’re not hostile towards outsiders.]
“You guys aren’t right?” Stelle turned to the group of Chrysos heirs.
Aglaea shook her head. “Okhema accepts people from everywhere and civilians don’t even know of an outside world.” She paused for a moment. “However… precautions may need to be taken.”
A scoff was heard from the other side of the room which the Goldweaver gracefully ignored.
[Are we back to being fugitives again…?]
Castorice blinked. “...Again?”
The screen zoomed out to show the back of a pink haired… creature.
[Me…]
“What is that?”
As soon as Stelle turned to look at it, it disappeared.
[...?]
[What is it?]
[Show yourself, peeping Tom!]
[...Someone’s here? Ready your weapon and stay alert.]
“It doesn’t look dangerous though.” Tribbie frowned. “It looked really cute!”
Aglaea glanced towards the red haired child. “Appearances can be deceiving, Teacher. But I do agree, whatever it is doesn’t seem hostile.”
[Let’s find out what’s behind that gate.]
The door opened when they walked up to it and, stepping out of the room, Stelle spotted the source of the noise again.
As they got closer, the scenery suddenly changed and the corridor was fixed, like it had never been rubble in the first place.
“What the hell happened!” Stelle exclaimed.
“That creature seems to be able to wield the blessings of Orynx…” Hyacine frowned, glancing at the Professor's expression.
After a few steps, the place turned to rubble again.
“Man… this is freaking me out!” March 7th whined, trying to get a better look at the pink creature on the screen.
[Over there. That pink thing.]
[You see it, too?]
[Yes, it’s not an illusion.]
The corridor kept switching from rubble to new with no warning.
[There it is again. Is it doing all of this? This phenomenon… is hard to explain.]
They walked through the next door as the pink thing disappeared again.
[It’s gone… That happened too fast for us to make any sense of it. Did you see what the creature looked like?]
March spoke. “I think it looked kind of like a rabbit!”
“It was really cute!” Tribbie nodded, red hair bouncing with the movement.
[A cat of sorts?]
[It’s unlike any of the known species in our data bank. But I guess that’s to be expected. We know nothing about Amphoreus, after all.]
[Back when we were trailblazing into Jarilo-VI, we knew its history and terrain even before arriving on the planet. But with Amphoreus… All we have is whatever little Black Swan told us about the world]
“It really is strange that we know nothing about Amphoreus.” Welt agreed, holding his chin in thought. “Although that’s exactly what makes it a great Trailblazing destination.”
[But we can’t afford to screw up this trailblazing expedition.]
[I’m afraid we must plan for the worst. Putting a potential language barrier aside, that was a powerful attack on us just now… It’s hard to imagine a planet as far out and isolated as this having the expertise to create such sophisticated weaponry.]
[Is it any match for my baseball bat?]
[I can’t tell for sure. But let’s not get our hopes up too high. We can learn and observe as we move.]
Himeko nodded. “Good thinking, Dan Heng.”
They entered the next door and walked up a set of stairs, there were statues littered all around.
“...Titakin”
[It looks like no one lives in this area, and that strange creature from before is nowhere to be seen. But…]
[Look at that.]
They turned to face Kephale's statue.
“Woah, I didn’t release it was so massive!”
“That is what holds Kephale's dawn device, keeping Okhema safe and the sky held up.”
Cipher twitched minutely but it went unnoticed to everyone in the room, their eyes too busy on the screen.
Everyone apart from a certain green haired scholar, that is.
[What is that?]
[Judging from the prevalence of these colossal structures, this civilization has more than just great engineers and architects. The structures also indicate a universal belief system. If only it were closer, I’d be able to make out the details.]
[If you want to take some photos, now would be the perfect time.]
“Yes!” March 7th squealed. “Do me justice, Stelle!”
A giant sphere stands between heaven and earth in the distance. At its stop, the sky appears torn open - or rather, it seems to have willingly opened a circular rift. Inside, a swirling vortex churns, and the clouds periodically reflect a golden glow.
If March 7th were here, she’d definitely use her girlish imagination to come up with some whimsical and creative metaphors for the scenery. Unfortunately, it’s up to you to take on the team’s photographer duties now.
Stelle quickly takes a photo of the giant sphere.
“Ehhh, It’ll do for now.” The pink haired girl criticises, crossing her arms. “But you need to up your game young lady!”
Across the cliff, the grand palace gates remain silent, unwilling to reveal any of the history and secrets hidden behind it.
What could lie within the gate? You can’t help but let your imagination run wild: Bloody carnage, chaotic banquets, bottomless abyss…
“You truly do have an… exciting imagination.” Sunday said as politely as he could.
Then you regain focus, hearing a playful voice softly whisper in your ear-
[Hellooo~! Snap out of it and click the shutter already!]
“Listen to hallucination March!” The real one scolded. “Hurry up and snap the photo!”
Stelle clicked a photo of the gates.
[(These turned out great. Heh, they deserve the most prominent spot on the photo wall.)]
“Hey! That’s my decision!"
They heard a rumbling noise behind them, Dan Heng turned around to see the statues much closer than before.
“Uh, I don’t think statues are supposed to move…”
Aglaea pinched her brows. “Those aren’t statues…”
[...Hmm?]
[Something’s wrong…]
[Watch out, Stelle!]
[I’m sensing hostility…]
[These things aren’t breathing. …Inorganic lifeforms?]
The stone shattered, revealing moving beasts.
“A fight already!? We just got there!”
[Looks like they want to keep us here. With a dead end and a cliff edge behind us, there’s no other way out. We’re going to have to fight them.]
[You can’t say it’s trailblazing until you land a hit with your bat!]
[Let’s do this.]
Stelle grinned and nudged her companion. “Beat them up future Dan Heng and me!”
Dan Heng huffed and smiled slightly.
The two fought the enemies but more and more kept appearing.
[They just keep on coming, how do we break free from this…?]
The screen panned up to show someone jumping off a ledge above them.
“Snowy!” Tribbie exclaimed upon seeing the man.
Phainon blinked a few times. “Huh, I guess I’m the first to greet them.”
He slammed down, taking down the monsters when he landed.
His sword disappeared from his hand when it pierced the enemy and he turned to face the two, racing forward.
[Look out–!]
Phainon appeared in front of Stelle.
[You’ve got something… interesting.]
With a swipe of his hand, Dan Heng's spear broke in two.
“Cloud-Piercer!” Dan Heng gaped, seeing his precious spear snapped in two.
Phainon looked away, rubbing the back of his head.
The screen panned closer on the white haired man to show him holding a familiar baseball bat then bouncing it off his foot to catch.
“Wha-!” Stelle exclaimed. “Hey that’s my bat!”
The white haired man in question seemed slightly embarrassed.
“Sorry! I mean in my defence, how was I supposed to know if you’re friendly or not?”
[I bear no harm. I just want everyone to be safe.]
[Everyone to be safe?]
Sunday furrowed his eyebrows in thought before speaking to Welt.
“Isn’t it a little strange that there's no language barrier?” The Halovain turned to face the older man. “Especially for a civilization so isolated…”
“It is strange however we should probably just count it as a coincidence for now.”
[Roaming around a place like the Abyss with weapons in tow is a show of provocation. Those soldiers are minions of the Strife Titian. They’re not known to stop until all invaders fall under their feet.]
[If you continue brandishing your weapons, you won’t only be putting yourselves in the crossfire…]
[Their looming blades will come down on the heads of the innocent.]
[A civil approach gets your message across all the same.]
[It’s difficult to tell if you’re friend or foe when you appear out of thin air. Even without your weapons, a great power still lurks within you..]
“Of course!” Stelle placed both hands on her hips. “The mighty galactic baseballer holds incomparable amounts of power within herself!”
Phainon shot Dan Heng a questioning, slightly worried glance and received a head shake in return, the message clear.
‘Don’t ask…’
[I could be putting myself in harm’s way for all I know. I’d be unwise not to take precautions.]
[So, care to share the reason for dropping in on us? Hmm? Visitors from above?]

Chapter Text
[Tribbie: Phai-non-! Look what you did again! Taking off only to get yourself into trouble?]
“Cassie! Look, it's us !” Tribbie called excitedly, bouncing in her seat.
[Tribbie: Agh, you even ruined his weapon! Now you’ve really gone and done it! This is no way to be treating strangers.]
The red-haired girl turned to Phainon. “Future me is right, Snowy! You better fix Dannie’s weapon, it’s rude to break peoples stuff!”
He rubbed his white hair with a nervous chuckle. “Sorry, Lady Tribbie…”
“Don’t apologise to me! Apologise to poor Dannie!”
[Phainon: I was just trying to fix our problem in the safest way possible.]
[Tribbie: How is this safe!? Hello, friendly strangers! Let’s all simmer down and cool our jets. We’re all humans here. No need for things to get so heated.]
“Sorry, you two…” Phainon apologised, looking at the pair. “...Future me was way out of line.” He paused for a moment, his words rendering to him. “Wow, that is an odd line!”
[Tribbie: Snowy’s just worried you’re baddies from above, but we know you two are nothing of the sort! Oh,right, you don’t know us yet. We ’re Tribbie from Janusopolis, and this is… Snowy! Hurry up and apologize to them!]
Mydei huffed a breath of amusement at seeing the Deliverer get scolded causing a glare from the man in question.
“What’s so funny, Mydei?”
[Phainon: Alright, if you say so, Tribbie… I apologize for my earlier behavior. I was overly wary because both of you landed in this tumultuous region, it put me on high alert.]
[Dan Heng: I understand. We’re Trailblazers from beyond the sky.]
[Stelle: You’re telling them everything already?]
“We know they don’t want to kill us, Stelle.” Dan Heng sighed, explaining to his friend. “And even in the video they don’t seem to be charging at us, weapons drawn.”
[Dan Heng: There is no point in concealing anything. They saw everything. If they wanted us dead, they wouldn’t be standing around talking to us.]
[Phainon: …Not from above the sky but beyond it…?]
“It really is hard to believe there's so much beyond our skies…”
“It’s lucky you ran into us , then!” Tribbie held her hands together, glancing at the Trailblazers. “Others may not have been so welcoming…”
[Tribbie: Wow, that’s something else altogether… You’re lucky you met us , then.]
[Dan Heng: What do you mean?]
[Phainon: She means you’re lucky because we won’t hurt you, but the same can’t be said for others.]
“Nothing Dan Heng and my bat can’t handle!” Stelle announced, proudly. “But it is good to have allies that won’t try to kill us…”
[Phainon: …Let’s talk somewhere else. You’ve seen it first-hand. It isn’t safe out here. As you saw, there are still many refugees who haven’t been freed in the temple.]
[Phainon: We’re here to rescue and escort them to the holy city, Okhema. They’re the reason I had to be absolutely sure you were not here with ill intent, and why I wanted you to put away your weapons. If something were to occur, they would have no way of protecting themselves.]
“Good job keeping the citizens in mind, Phainon.” Aglaea praised, shooting the man a glance.
[Phainon: I’m Phainon from Aedes Elysiae. Sorry if I offended you just now.]
[Stelle: That’s an unusual name.]
[Dan Heng: I’m Dan Heng. This is–]
[Stelle: I’m the Galactic Baseballer.]
Dan Heng buried his head in his hands with a long, suffering sigh.
“You do this every time…”
[Phainon: That sounds mighty impressive, but I’m guessing it’s a nickname? We’re meeting each other for the first time, so shouldn’t you tell me your actual name?]
“Don’t encourage her…”
[Stelle: I’m Stelle.]
[Phainon: Friction really does spark friendships, huh? Here, you can have your weapon back.]
“Oh my beautiful baseball bat! Come to mama!” Stelle cheered, clapping dramatically.
March 7th groaned, shoving her head in her hands and Dan Heng followed, sighing while pointing a suffering glance in her direction.
[Tribbie: And here’s your spear. Don’t worry, this is entirely on Snowy. I’ll make sure he fixes it for you!]
“You’d better fix it, Snowy! Breaking someone's weapon is no way to treat a guest.” Tribbie scolded the man.
[Phainon: Ahaha… It seems I’ll have to treat Chartonus to a couple of drinks again.]
[Dan Heng: We’ve just arrived and still have many questions. If you two can ensure our safety, traveling together would certainly be the best choice.]
[Dan Heng: Please lead the way.]
Stelle wiggled in her seat. “Our journey in Amphoreus is properly starting now that we met locals! Please let us have a death free expedition!”
“...Death free?”
[Dan Heng: How do you view the situation?]
[Stelle: Nothing. let's keep going.]
[Dan Heng: Hmm? Is someone arguing in the temple? Let’s take a look, and remember - keep it friendly.]
[Elder: No, I will never agree to that…]
“Agree to what?” Hyacine questioned. “What are they talking about?”
[Elder: Virtus! You acted on your own to ask the Chrysos Heirs for help!? To bring us into their so-called holy city, no less! We are priests of Janus, born as footless birds - how could we possibly endure being confined to one place?]
“Ahhh.” Phainon muttered. “So that’s what the arguing was about…”
Welt frowned, turning to Aglaea. “Janus…?” He asked, head tilted slightly in question.
“The Passage Titan.” The Goldweaver answered. “They are worshiped by the priests of Janusopolis.”
[Virtus: We’ve lost far too many to Nikador’s forces, Mr. Noldus! I only want for everyone to settle down somewhere safe, and to be able to sleep soundly.]
[Noldus: Lose your faith, and you lose everything. Do you seriously think you can seek shelter in Okhema? Nowhere is safe with the end times looming!]
[Noldus: I’ve said my piece. Leave, if that’s what you want. Everyone else is staying in this temple, where we enjoy the protection of Janus, the Gate of Infinity.]
“I understand tradition but…” Himeko paused, eyes fixated on the scene playing out. “Why cling to stubbornness when it endangers you and your people?”
“Many people don’t believe in the refuge that Okhema gives from the black tide, and that it’s only a matter of time before everywhere falls to the prophecy.” Agleae spoke up, expression unreadable. “The holy city can only house so many and some are unwelcoming to foreign refugees.”
Anaxa scoffed. “You people hold too much weight in prophecies, Woman .”
“Quiet, Blasphemor.” The Goldweaver warned, glaring at the scholar.
Cipher cackled while Tribbie merely sighed, rubbing her temple. “Agy~!, Naxy~! Stop arguing and watch the screen!”
[Phainon: Don’t make this decision in haste, sir-]
[Noldus: I appreciate the concern, esteemed Chrysos Heir. But please respect that we have the right to choose our own fate.]
[Virtus: I’m sorry you had to see that esteemed Chrysos Heir. Hmm? These two with you are…?]
[Phainon: Travelers from afar. They’re also headed for the holy city. If memory serves me right, you are… Virtus? Please, you may call me Phainon. What was that just now.]
Nothing partially interesting was happening on the screen, as of now. Stelle noted as she leaned back to lean back against the sofa, next to where Himeko’s legs hung off, but she could see the older woman deep in thought at that repeated mention of the holy city and the danger and destruction this world faced.
‘What’s Himeko thinking about…?’
[Virtus: It’s an honor you remember me, Phainon. We are priests from Janusopolis. Armies of the Strife Titan destroyed our home, forcing us to flee across many lands until we arrived here.]
[Virtus: A few days ago. I watched another companion fall to those monsters, and I was shattered… I offered a prayer to Okhema, thinking the answer would take time, at least enough for me to to convince Mr. Noldus. I didn’t expect your arrival to be so swift.]
[Stelle: Every place has their fair share of troubles.]
“True, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a world with such problems.” Dan Heng nodded with a flat expression. “Thats why the Nameless help the suffering worlds they come across.”
[Dan Heng: The elder spoke of the “end times” just now and claimed that no place in Amphoreus is safe. What did he mean by that…?]
Phainon winced. “It’s probably best that people don’t know you’re from beyond the sky…”
[Virtus: Excuse me, sir? Everyone knows about the prophecy. How is it that you-]
[Phainon: Virtus, right now we must focus on convincing Mr. Noldus to return. The Abyss is swarming with fierce enemies, and they have no way to defend themselves, leaving them vulnerable to all kinds of danger.]
[Phainon: My friends, I have a rather bold request. The two of you are quite capable - might I trouble you to fetch Mr. Noldus?]
[Phainon: Tribbie will join you. She can also answer any questions you may have.]
Tribbie smiled. “I’ll answer any questions you like!”
[Dan Heng: Alright, we’ll go. If we’re to be companions on this journey, it’s only right that we offer assistance where possible.]
[Phainon: You two are truly honourable! I’ll stay behind to guard Virtus and the rest. Go quickly and come back safe.]
[Tribbie: I’m sure you two have a ton of questions, don’t you?]
“I do!” March 7th called and the red haired demigod giggled in return.
“I’m sure the Tribbie on the screen will answer most of your questions but you can always ask me more afterwards, Marchie.”
[Tribbie: As for why we should speak in private, that’s because quiet places are better suited for communicating with one another.]
[Dan Heng: But the road ahead is… cut off.]
“Oh, yeah…” Stelle groaned. “Are you gonna like… fly us over or something?”
“I guess you wouldn’t know since you’re from beyond the sky…” Tribbie laughed gently, eyes twinkling. “You’ll see in a second, anyway!”
[Stelle: Are you going to carry and fly us across?]
[Tribbie: Heh. Judging by your reactions, you weren’t lying about being newly arrived travelers. In that case, don’t blink, or you’ll miss the next part.]
[Tribbie: Also, Snowy wouldn’t dare make plans for us . It’s more like the other way around!]
[Tribbie: Alright! Silence, please. We are about to summon a miracle…]
[Tribbie: “We, they humble descendants, doth surmount the myriad of passages of Janus to stand before thee and receive the scales of judgment.”]
[Tribbie: “O, selfless arbiter Talanton, declare us innocent in the name of the law. Weigh the fruits of the present in exchange for the sweetness of the past.]
[Tribbie: “We summon thee, Oronyx, to lift the curtain of memory…”]
“What is she-”
The screen faded to black for a brief moment before showing the book in front of Tribbie swing open with a blue light.
[Tribbie: …Once again stir the ripples of past reverie!]
The book sent a burst of power around the room, restoring the road ahead.
“Woah!”
Stelle gaped, the display of power was breathtaking but the sights of the fully restored room were even more so.
[Dan Heng: This is… unbelievable.]
Dan Heng nodded to his words with a slightly dumbfounded expression.
The two followed Tribbie.
When they reached her the power dispersed, with only a small light illuminating and restoring their path
[Panicked Refugee: H-How is that possible… Did Oronyx’s prayer fail?]
[Tribbie: My two friends, don’t stray too far from us !]
“Yeah, stick close! We wouldn’t want you falling off…”
[Calm Refugee: Stop panicking! As long as we’re with them, we’ll be fine.]
The three walk forward, turning a corner to see a group of refugees being targeted by titankin.
[Tribbie: Just what I was afraid of. So much for a peaceful chat…]
[Tribbie: The history lesson will have to wait, my friends. We must help Mr. Noldus!]
It was pretty weird seeing herself fight on screen. Stelle noted as she watched the scene play out.
The way she swung her bat, toppling enemies was comfortably familiar, but still, watching those practiced moves from an outside perspective felt strange.
[Noldus: Whew… Thank you. The three of you saved our lives.]
“Heh. All in a day's work of Trailblazing!”
[Tribbie: Mr. Noldus, Virtus was right, It’s too dangerous for all of you to be here. Please come back to Okhema with us .]
[Noldus: I believe I’ve made my stance clear, my child. Us priests would rather die in the pursuit of faith than live in a foreign land.]
“Foolishness.” Anaxa scorned from where he lounged in his seat, earning him a pointed glare from the Goldweaver.
“Quiet, Anaxa.”
“You know well that it’s Anaxagorous, woman. ”
[Tribbie: Sir, we deeply understand your faith in the Titans. Perhaps in your eyes, Kephale, the protector of the holy city, is but a god from a foreign land.]
[Tribbie: But, we swear to you in the name of Janus, the Gate of Infinity that so long as the Chrysos Heirs live, Okhema will protect all followers of the Titans. We are one and the same.]
[Noldus: You swear in the name of Janus? Who are you…]
“Ah, he doesn’t remember…”
[Tribbie: Don’t you remember, Noldus?]
[Tribbie: Our name is Tribios.]
[Noldus: What? You’re the high priest!?]
“High priest…?” Stelle echoed, turning to the girl with a bewildered expression. “But you look so… young.”
Tribbie smiled, facing the Trailblazer with shining eyes. “ We are much older than we look!”
“Tribios is the oldest demigod among us.” Aglaea nodded in agreement. “We can expand on that later if you wish, however it’s probably best to focus on the screen for the moment, lest we miss anything important.”
With that the blonde turned back to the screen and Tribbie followed.
Stelle blinked a few times.
‘Reminds me of the pepeshi in Penacony…’
A shiver ran through her body at the surfacing memory of the cult that she, Boothill and Argenti shut down.
‘Poor Qingque.’
[Noldus: Why do you look like a child? No, to think that I, a mere tribal priest, dared lecture you on faith. How ludicrous! Please forgive my transgressions…]
[Tribbie: Noldus, we do not wish to force you, but please think of the people in your tribe.]
[Tribbie: The young place their trust in you just as you place your trust in us . If you stay, they will remain here too, doomed to fall under Nikador’s spear.]
[Noldus: If that is “divine will,” then I have no reason to disobey.]
Tribbie smiled. “ We ’re glad we could convince Noldus, the people of his tribe would not have survived against strife’s soldiers.”
[Noldus: High priest, please guide us once again as we spread our wings on this long journey.]
[Virtus: Mr. Noldus, I’m glad you’re all right.]
[Noldus: Virtus, I still disagree with your methods, but it doesn’t matter now. Let us place our trust in the Chrysos Heirs.]
Phainon sighed in relief. “Good thing you could convince him, Tribbie. The people's safety is our top priority right now.”
[Phainon: The dromas caravan that’s supposed to meet us isn’t here yet, so let's all rest where it’s safe for a while.]
Dan Heng titled his head. “Dromas?”
Phainon blinked, momentary surprise flickering across his face before the realisation dawned on him. “Oh right! I suppose it does make sense that beyond the sky would have different life forms…
Dromas are creations of Georios, the Titan of Earth. I’m sure the screen will show them on our journey back to Okhema.”
Anaxa piped up.“While Dromases indeed lack intelligence, they still have many advantages. They’re calm, quiet, have a good temperament… and eat lots…”
“They do call you “A dromas draped in finery”, pretty boy.” Cipher teased, with a laugh while the Professor scoffed.
“You say that like it’s an insult, Cat girl.”
[Dan Heng: Regrettably, our questions are still unanswered, and we now have even more. Now that things have calmed down, perhaps you two can find the time to answer a few of them.]
[Phainon: Of course. Please come this way.]
[Phainon: I see you’ve both been made aware of our troubles. I’m grateful for your understanding, so in return, please ask me anything you wish to know.]
Stelle sighed in relief. “Finally some answers..”
[Stelle: What is this “end times” people spoke of?]
[Phainon: Just as the word implies, it’s the time of strife before the world meets its end.]
[Stelle: Is this the sequel to Belobog?]
Dan Heng shot her a look, shaking his head.
[Dan Heng: Are you saying your civilization is coming to an end?]
[Phainon: To be precise, it’s the whole world that’s coming to an end.]
It wasn’t unheard of or even super rare for planets to be facing such catastrophes. With the different, colliding paths in the universe, different civilizations face different threats. Whether it be from Aeons or from other living organisms.
But for a planet so far out and so unusually disconnected from everything else to be facing such issues.
Stelle had to question where it came from.
[Stelle: What are Titans?]
[Phainon: The ancient gods of Amphoreus, once worshipped by humanity, they now stand as their foes.]
Himeko furrowed her brows, turning to the Heirs. “Why did the Titans turn against humanity?”
“Many went mad after being corrupted by the black tide…”
[Stelle: Who are the Chrysos Heirs?]
[Phainon: The prophetic Deliverers, with golden blood coursing through their veins.]
[Stelle: What was that miracle performed earlier?]
[Phainon: It’s a gift from the Three Titans of Fate. With their blessings, priests can awaken shadows of the past to alter reality.]
“A miracle to awaken the past…”
[Tribbie: You’re putting it too lightly. Don’t make miracles sound like a tool you can simply use at will.]
“So not everyone can use these miracles?” Dan Heng questioned, turning away from the scene playing out.
“Anyone can if they’re trained in doing so!” Tribbie answered. “Snowy was just putting it lightly, miracles are a blessing from the Titans and not just some tool anyone can use whenever they want.”
[Stelle: That’s all the questions I have for now.]
[Dan Heng: Your answers are too concise…]
[Phainon: I’m sorry. I guess I’m not good at telling stories.]
[Tribbie: Yet, a tedious and overly long explanation isn’t ideal either. Let me think…]
[Tribbie: Right! Virtus and the others are priests from Janusopolis. They should be adept at playing the lyre. How about playing a song for our two friends?]
“Oh! That’s a great idea, Tribbie.” Phainon beamed, looking down at the girl. “Hopefully that’ll be much more adept at answering our friends from beyond the sky.”
[Tribbie: There’s a ballad that’s been passed down in Amphoreus since ancient times…]
Two children sat on a broken ledge behind Tribbie, one playing the lyre, while people gathered around.
[Tribbie: “Happiness abound in this lush land by gods chosen. Giants raised their glasses in a toast beheld by the twelve constellations.”]
[Tribbie: “Three carved the heavens and the earth, three wove the threads of fate. Three molded life with their hands, and three guided calamity’s gate.”]
[Tribbie: “They declared the world too unstirring, hence wished endless laughter upon the living.”]
[Tribbie: “Thus you and I were created, with words and song to weave, and love and intimacy to give.”]
[Tribbie: “Thus, creation was complete, who then will bear the weight of humanity’s souls, to lighten the steps of the living as a whole?”]
[Tribbie: “O great Kephale, all-knowing father of stature so tall, yet low does their gaze willingly fall.”]
[Tribbie: “With light of dawn heavy upon their shoulders, golden ichor spills unto the land…”]
“Golden ichor…”
Welt murmured to himself, voice low as he rolled over the words in his mind. Sunday tapped him on the shoulder gently, expression slightly pinched in worry.
“Is everything alright, Mr Yang?” Sunday whispered to the man, making sure to not bring attention to their conversation. “You’ve been slightly… off since that white haired man was shown on the screen…”
Welt met his eyes, mustering a small smile. “I’m alright, Sunday. That man just… reminds me of someone from my home world.” He patted the younger comfortingly, turning back to the screen. “I was just thinking about that golden blood mentioned and Amphoreus’ hidden third path but I’m sure we can have a discussion later, once we’ve heard more about this world.”
[Tribbie: “...forming the boiling river that flows through the legacies of heroes who take their stand…”]
The room sat in comfortable silence while the Tribbie on screen played out the song.
That was until Stelle decided to comment.
“Beautiful!” She bellowed, mime wiping tears from her eyes as her free hand smacked Dan Heng’s shoulder to attempt clapping with one hand.
Tribbie seemed momentarily confused, blinking slowly before speaking. “ We ’re… glad you liked it?”
“Ignore her, please ”
A rumble rang out across the building they stood in.
[Phainon: …Hmm?]
[Stelle: What’s with the stage effects?]
Two large purple creatures stomped onto screen, a man walking in front.
“Is that a dromas?” March cried out, eyes widening. “It’s wayyyy bigger than I thought!”
“Awwww!!! It’s so cute!”
“What magnificent creatures…” Dan Heng muttered.
Stelle grinned, leaning into her friend's side. “You know they sorta remind me of your cool dragon form Dan Heng!”
“...what?” The baffled, slightly pink cheeked Nameless responded before seemingly regaining his wits and pushing the girl away.
[Phainon: Hahaha! Don’t worry. That’s just our rescue. Time to get up, everyone!]
Dan Heng and Stelle shared a glance before following the exiting crowd.
[Dan Heng: What magnificent creatures.]
[Phainon: These large mild-mannered creatures are called dromas. They’re humanity’s most loyal companions. We’ll be relying on them to get us through the rugged mountain roads on the way to the holy city.]
Anaxa nodded in approval. “Much more reliable than those Gods ”
“Naxy~! Stop saying weird things!”
[Phainon: Dromas are very docile, even first-time riders can steer them easily. Here, give it a try. Remember to hold the reins tight.]
[Dromas: Urrhh… uuuhhhh-]
Stelle saw all the white shells jutting out from the dromas’ limbs and planed to use them as footholds…
“That’s not a good idea…”
“Why not-?”
[Dromas: Urrhh!]
The dromas let out a dissatisfied growl and easily tossed her several meters away.
“That’s your idea of docile!?”
[Stelle: This is your idea of docile!?]
[Phainon: I forgot to mention. Don’t touch their white stone humps. When the Earth Titan blessed these creatures, it’s said they also stuffed their ill tempers into these humps.]
Stelle scowled, crossing her arms and pouting. “A warning would have been nice!”
March snorted. “It was kinda funny tho! Man, I wish I could’ve gotten that on camera!”
[Dromas: Urrhh… uuuhhhh-]
Stelle saddled the creature much more carefully this time, successfully making it on top.
[Phainon: See? Easy, wasn’t it?]
[Noldus: Everyone, how did you find our lyre performance earlier? We’ve been in exile for many days and haven’t touched our instruments in a long time. I fear our skills have grown rusty, and we’ve made a spectacle of ourselves.]
[Tribbie: No, not at all! Your performance was wonderful, sir!]
[Noldus: It’s been a long time since we sat together like that and sang ancient ballads to our heart’s content. I’m grateful to all of you for reminding me of those glorious and peaceful times. Looking back now, I admit I was too stubborn.]
[Noldus: Perhaps you really can save Amphoreus from its doom, just like how the four of you heroes saved our very lives and faith today.]
[Stelle: He even included the two of us!]
“You did save the refugees alongside us.” Phainon chuckled.
[Phainon: Suffering’s bad for your health, and it won’t help your faith much, either. That’s why it’s our inherent duty as Chrysos Heirs to free everyone from suffering.]
[Phainon: It's also the reason for the holy city Okhema's existence — the only human city left in our present day.]
“Ehh, no need to get so serious, Snowy!” Tribbie put both hands on her hips, looking up at Phainon.
[Tribbie: Hey now, don't be so serious. You're bringing the mood down. Anyway, in short, the holy cityOkhema is absolutely safe. Everything will be fine once we get there.]
[Tribbie: Is everyone properly seated? Then we're off! Next stop: Okhema!]
The back of a dromas was like a cradle. Stelle gradually fell asleep, and the caravan arrived in Okhema after some travel time…
Then the screen faded to black.
“What!” March 7th cried. “No~! I wanted to see what Okhema looks like!”
She turned to her friends with a sharp gaze, leaving both the Trailblazers sweating in their seats.
“You two better take SO many good pictures, you hear me!”
The threatening stopped before it could get violent (when the pink headed girl started mumbling something about Stelle’s ‘terrible photography’ and looking closer to throttling her by the minute) with a hand on March 7th’s shoulder. The three looked up to spot familiar red hair.
“Now, now you three.” Himeko smiled gently. “We should wait for the person to appear before we start murdering each other.”
As if on cue, blue flames took over the room once again.
“Okay, my dear viewers~” They clapped their hands together and the door to the room swung open. “I need more time to gather the appropriate memories, so have a ten minute break. Bye~ Bye~”
With that they disappeared again and the words ‘downloading’ flashed onto the screen.
Welt cleared his throat, breaking the momentary silence.
“If possible, I would like to discuss something with everyone…
about Amphoreus’ third and… final hidden path.”
