While Cloud is unable to remember his adult memories due to the physical limitations of a baby's brain, Sephiroth shifts the deepest foundation of their bond from hatred to manufactured affection.
Where taken seriously, this has dark and lasting consequences.
Where taken less seriously, Sephiroth goes from bad guy to dad guy.
