“Te ves muy guapo,” [You look very handsome,] Mariana began, “I don’t think I’ve seen you wearing a dress before.”
“Um, yeah, well, you know… I just thought- why not dress up for the occasion?” Charlie responded, watching as his wife slid into the seat across from him. He was almost scared to bring up Mariana’s dress, or he was too lost in it to form a sentence, because he simply said “Guapa esposa” quietly, though loud enough for Mariana to hear. A light shade of pink dusted her cheeks, and Charlie couldn’t help but note how beautiful she looked in this lighting. The fire of the candle created such a soft glow on him, and Charlie thought he had to be the luckiest person in the world to be with such a person, let alone married to him.

He can’t blame him though, didn’t he do the exact thing to Tilin? He couldn’t judge the boat the both of them walked in, the one with holes that just got bigger and bigger until it sunk. One nobody could find abandoned at the pit of the sea.

Everybody had to pity Jaiden and Roier for losing Bobby, and even Maximus with Trumpet. He was a worse parent then Charlie and Mariana themselves! It wasn’t fair. This fucked up island wasn’t fair to him at all. He tried bringing them back, he tried forgetting, nothing ever worked. Every good thought washed into a bad one, and Charlie would end up hating himself more.

Summary
Grief is a funny thing. The heavy, tangled up knot that you don't remember swallowing. Something dark and bitter that climbs back up your throat every so often just to remind you that it's there. Some people got good at biting it back. Some people got to wash it down with lemonade and laughter and friends to fall back on. Some even learned how to let it come. To let the knot past their lips and untie it. Some people were only passing companions with grief, but others were worse.
Quackity and Charlie were worse.
Over a year since his daughter died and Quackity was regretting his career choices. All the bitterness he brought with him to school now. All the misdirected anger towards parents; mornings drowning the smell of alcohol in gum and cologne. He was a sorry sight, as was Charlie. Charlie, who was living in Quackity's basement because he couldn't face his husband (or himself). Charlie, who hadn't managed a job since paying for their kids' funerals. Charlie, who was probably going to kill himself one of these days if they weren't careful. So, yeah. Some people were worse.
Enter a new school year, hot parents, and a very determined husband trying to teach these two that grief doesn't have to be forever.

Slimecicle has night terrors and hallucinations which are from his traumatic childhood. After Juanaflippa dies, they get worse and even though she is revived now, he still has awful nightmares and terrors. El Mariana and Juanaflippa are there to help him through his panic and comfort him.
