Thor and Loki (both are adults) are secret lovers. They've been in relationship for a while, and they really love each other.
One day a delegation from Vanaheim arrives. Their relationship with Asgard hasn't been good lately; while their king is loyal to Odin, there are people in his kingdom that want to be independent from Asgard. Most people know that it won't do much good to Vanaheim, but a group of revolutionists keep spreading their ideas.
They manage to find some more-or-less good decision. But then the old king sees Loki and secretly admires the young, beautiful prince for hours. He can't help but suggest Odin an arranged marriage, saying that the presence of an Asgardian consort in Vanaheim can make things better. He's a widower, already has heirs, so it doesn't matter to him if Loki gives him children. Odin thinks that it makes sense. He announces that Loki is to marry the king of Vanaheim.

Okay, this is Stephen King levels of dark. Do not be an idiot like me and read at it ~1am without any sort of comfort items. Follow the checklist below to read this comfortably.
1) Read on a Friday evening. You will need the weedend to recover, you also want time before dark to read at least one fluffy fic after this and you want to read this late enough that you don't have anything pressing to do afterwards.
2) Get yourself some good chocolate and at least one cup of tea.
3) Acquire an animal to cuddle. I personally recommend cats or dogs but if your python gives good hugs you can go for that too - although if you use an ectothermic creature as a comfort animal I recommend a hot water bottle.
4) You might need a box of tissues, you might not. This fic is less crying sad and more disturbing sad.
5) Find a fluffy fic to read after BEFORE you read this fic.
6) If you have depression this fic will either make it a lot worse or a lot better so proceed with caution.
7) Good catharsis.
