Let the dust settle.If you still feel like goin’ when the suns up, I won’t stand in your way,” Steve promised lowly. He cleared his throat. His father’s voice amid his mind urging him to add after a beat, “Though I will gut you with no hesitation. Yeah? If you decide to take advantage of my kindness.”
Steve’s eyes held the boy’s, and the boy’s eyes held Steve’s back.
“Truce, then?”
The young man nodded.
Then slowly placed his cold, trembling hand into Steve’s warm, calloused palm. A quiet shiver of relief and exhaustion flooding visibly through him as Steve helped the shivering creature to his feet. “Easy now,” Steve murmured, guiding him slowly toward the door, mindful of every shaking step. “You’ll be alright. I—I’ll make sure you’re alright.”

Needless to say, this piece is inspired by who I imagine might be behind the lyrics, but I'm not using any names - real or suspected. I've got so much respect for these musicians and want to note that this work is ~completely~ fictionalized courtesy of my maladaptive daydreaming.
