Many, many centuries ago, humans and "gods" were in a great battle, but they settled that humans and "gods" would be separated. The "gods" created a world similar to Earth, but it requires magic to open the portal to get there. Some of the "gods" stayed and built an empire and hiding their powers to blend in with humans, and they built their empire on Point Nemo, but the "gods" aren't allowed to be on earth or use their powers; they have to wear magic blockers so they don't kill anyone.

His back faced Aventurine, dimly lit by the lights, and Aventurine briefly had to wonder if this was a nightmare. If he approached Ratio now, would he attack him? Try to hurt him like he had in previous dreams? Or would he do it on his own volition?
The doctor dipped his head back, sipping directly from a bottle of something, and when he turned, shooting Aventurine a glance, the gambler realized a couple of things:
Ratio was drinking his favorite drink. His hair had gotten longer. There were bags under his eyes and hair fallen over his face that he made no effort to fix.
Aventurine stepped closer to him, appropriate.. Conversation length, and instead of smelling of human being – attractive, masculine, yet equally domestic smelling of cashmere and cotton.. He smelt of booze.
