Summary
Gem and Grian grinned at each other. Straight ahead of them, lit up by the stark white glow of electricity, was a thin funnel reaching like a giant finger towards the ground.
Grian whooped again, grabbing the handle bar on the roof – the one Gem lovingly called the oh shit handle – as Gem slammed the pedal into the floorboard. The truck tires spun loosely against the dirt road for a second before gaining traction, sending the truck off like a bullet towards the thin tornado.

Step 1: Move out of the big city to a more rural area to conduct his research in peace.
Step 2: Meet the people in the small town nearby.
Step 3: Accidentally convince everyone that he's a witch.... Wait. What was that last one?
Or: Engineer moves out to the middle of nowhere and is immediately accused of witchcraft, more at 11.

Summary
Grian shifts in his seat. The nerves didn’t really get to him during the test, but now, just waiting for results, the anxiety is really starting to kick in.
Some of the other recruits are looking. Grian’s no stranger to stares, how could he not be with the largest and brightest wings to ever exist? You’d think everyone’s mature here, but nope.
A firehair girl starts to whisper things to their seat neighbor, and then calls out. “Hey dodo, I think you got lost. This is hero tryouts, not circus applications!” Nobody even bats an eye. Not for an avian.
A few heroes walk in. Most of the recruits jump up to talk and fawn over them, especially Hotguy. They were almost immediately crowded, and whatever suspense there was got destroyed.
Hotguy makes his way over to the still-seated people, before scanning the crowd. He walks right up to Grian, and says the words that Grian never expected to hear in his entire life. “Hey there sidekick.”

Number One hero Hotguy has neglected to take on an apprentice, not matter how much the agency pushes him to. But when a cute new recruit gets pushed around by his peers, how could he say no?

Summary
Grian is a notorious pirate hunter. But that changes when he finds an injured man by the name of Scar on the beach. When Grian finds out Scar is a pirate, and Scar finds out Grian is a pirate hunter, they make a deal.
One month at sea, Grian as the captain of the ship. If Scar can convince Grian to like being a pirate, he lets Scar and his crew go. If he doesn't, Grian gets to turn Scar with the million coin bounty on his head.
Scar knows well that Grian could just use up that month and turn him in. But he never goes down without a fight.
