Summary
Pretty much just venting through fairytales. If you have parental problems, this is probably a nice fic to read. and I mean like, mom yelling at dad kind of parental issues, or the other way around, doesn't really make too much of a difference.

The prince curled up tighter into his sister's embrace, “Then who is the sky mad at?”
The princess stroked her fingers through her brother's golden locks, closing her eyes, for if her brother looked up into them he would see that she was lying. “I don’t know, brother.”

Summary
Once upon a time, the king and queen of a faraway kingdom struck a bargain with a witch in order to gain the child and heir they coveted. But the bargain came with a price: their child would never truly be loved by another, unless they could be seen and accepted as they are. Prince Stephen, though gifted in ways other than book-smarts, was not the child his parents wanted. Unable to see past their own expectations for him, the prince grew up unloved. The kingdom considers him only an idiotic pleasure-seeker, one who cannot hold a candle to his brilliant parents. In order to find a worthy inheritor to their throne, the monarchs announce a contest for the prince’s hand. Three tasks shall be asked of those who enter: one of intelligence, one of strength, and one of bravery.
Eddie, a bard living with his day-laborer uncle, is blind to his magical heritage. He has little time for the comings and goings of the secretive nobility, who cloak their bodies in robes and hide their faces behind masks. A chance encounter with the prince causes Eddie to discover he is not at all the vapid fool everyone takes him for. The contest will provide a chance for both of them to change their futures.

“Okay lets get this over with.” Joel starts, trying hard to keep total exacerbation out of his tone. “No you are not asleep, yes I am a talking coffee machine, no it is not an automatic voice, yes I can understand you when you speak to me, yes I will quote unquote die when you take me apart or break me, no you can't record me and yes I will continue making coffee for you so long as you go get a cup before I actually start getting mad.”
That finally gets Etho moving, lurching awkwardly to the side to reach for one of his glasses. His hands tremble slightly as he places the cup down.
“So the coffee being good is…?”
“Yes, that's me. Do you really think that your nearly expired heavy cream is making coffee this good?” Joel snarks, starting the slow dispense of espresso to Etho's increasingly visible shock. “Any other questions?”
