Seungmin raises an eyebrow, looking like he wants to reach out to him but retracts. Hyunjin is focused on the small fidget of his fingers and deludes himself into thinking it’s a sign that Seungmin wants to comfort him, but he knows he can’t. They don’t do that. They can’t. But then, Seungmin does that face he used to make, when he gets nervous.
It’s the last straw. With a storm in his chest and tears in his eyes, Hyunjin thinks ‘fuck it’, and storms forward, arms rushing to bring Seungmin to his body.

The excitement in his voice, the joy in his smile, the light in his eyes.
Damian never quite experiences a peace similar to the one he feels with Richard. It calms his centre and stills his mind. It eases the strain of the day to day, their night to night. It lets Damian feel younger than he is, allows Damian to hold Richard’s hand and quietly share information he’s read about this plant or that butterfly while Richard listens attentively, asking questions and sharing little facts of his own.
He blames that very feeling of safety for bringing down his guard and making him miss the smell of ignition in the air, the danger right in front of them before it’s already too late and the screaming begins.
