    Hari tensed, lifting the offending hand to hover above her knee. “I’m sorry,” he said, “That was automatic.”

    She smiled against his chest. “It’s just a leg, Hari.” She already felt better, surrounded by his heat and salt scent. Their breathing and heartbeats had synchronised again, and she no longer felt like she was in two places at once. She could finally relax. Maybe even get some sleep. Maybe.

    At her words, Hari wrapped his hand over her knee again, his thumb making lazy circles against her skin that drove her nearly insane. She wondered if he knew he was doing it."
