Space fantasy AU where inter-system travel is prohibitively expensive, ships are hard to make and come by, the infrastructure for communication outside of orbit is imprecise at best, and there’s a dying star threatening the livelihood of Sunshot refugees living on a derelict moon.
The best engineers are proficient in the use of magic as well. Wei Ying, who cobbled together a decent enough craft to get the refugees off-world and halfway across this system to the moon before the craft failed, is well-trained, borderline genius in both mechanical engineering and spellcraft.

As a steward on the research vessel Terror, Billy was not technically qualified to leave the ship. Which was bullshit, because he’d been rated AB at the end of his last interplanetary expedition, or pretty close to it anyway. He had plenty of experience doing field work. Just because his only option to go on this expedition had been to sign up as part of the galley staff, that didn’t suddenly make him incompetent.
What made it even more insulting was that they’d sent Cornelius with him as an escort. Obviously command didn’t know about his and Cornelius’ personal history, and if Billy had his way they never would. But Cornelius had never so much as been off-planet before.
(Billy and Cornelius harvest some weird fungi, avoid talking about their feelings, and have sex in a cave. A whole lot of sex in a cave.)

Jimin looks up. “Oh yeah. I’m doing a fungal study right now. Do you mind sleeping on the couch until I finish?” He looks up pleadingly at Jungkook. “I hope you don’t because the fungi are rather fragile right now.”
Jimin’s eyes are big and wet and shiny and how the hell does anyone say no to those eyes except…
“Those are mushrooms. Growing out of my bed.”

It almost happens the minute they get back home.
“I- I want…I want…” Jungkook watches amusedly as Jimin digs his fingers into Jungkook’s jacket and struggles to express himself.
“Yes Jimin?” It’s rare to see Jimin being awkward and he’s going to milk it for all it’s worth.
“I w-want...” he looks up and sees Jungkook’s lips curling up just slightly at the corners and pouts. “Jungkook~” he whines. “You know don’t you?”
Jungkook blinks innocently. “No, I don’t. What do you want Jimin?”
“C-Can we…?” The way Jimin is struggling is so cute.
“Can we what?”
Jimin doesn’t get it out and he eventually storms off in a huff. The rest of the evening passes in a haze of disappointment for Jungkook. Maybe he shouldn’t have pushed so hard.
They both go to bed frustrated. For once, Jimin’s bed is free of papers and he can’t find an excuse to sneak into Jungkook’s bed so they’re both sleeping alone.
That is, until Jimin flops into Jungkook’s bed at 3 in the morning, buries his face in Jungkook’s neck and mumbles, “Can we real date?” and Jungkook kisses Jimin’s forehead sleepily.
“Mmm sure.”
