The air was thick with the faint scent of wildflowers and the subtle tang of sweat from a day’s hard travel. Fuu, Mugen, and Jin trudged along, their footsteps kicking up small clouds of dirt that caught the golden light of the sunset. The trio was—as usual and to no surprise—broke, hungry, and bickering.
“Man, that merchant was a cheapskate!” Mugen growled, his arms crossed behind his head as he swaggered forward. His wild hair bobbed with every step, his red haori fluttering in the breeze. “We save his sorry old hide from those bandits, and what do we get? Some lousy fruit? I could’ve taken his whole cart if I wanted.”
