Summary
He liked Mandy. So therefore, he wasn’t broken like he thought.
He ignored the way his heart seized every time it was just the two of them and she would smile at him with that lop-sided grin and pull him even closer. He ignored the way that every time he was in a room with all of the leading campaign staff, it wasn’t Mandy he wanted to be next to and talk to quietly, it was Sam.He ignored the way he could spend hours alone, close, talking about nothing of importance or even just existing in silence, with Sam, but couldn’t stand to do it with Mandy.
None of it meant anything. It couldn’t mean anything, he couldn’t let it mean anything. He was in politics, he was one of the leading members of a presidential campaign for a candidate that might actually be good. It couldn’t mean anything.

Summary
He felt like royalty, the hottest of hot shit, when they called the race on CNN, then NBC, and then suddenly everywhere. As the percent of precincts reporting ticked higher and higher, Ritchie conceded, the champagne was popped, and Josh could hardly walk two steps without someone rushing to congratulate him. Nothing in the world could possibly bring him down from this. He was more than floating; he was soaring.
Then, somehow, the entire party throughout the entire White House fell silent all in the same split second: the second when the anchor on the dozens of TV screens said his boyfriend’s name.
Sam decides if he's going to leave the White House. Josh reels. Amy helps.

Josh should bristle at the fact that his visitors log post shooting is a mile long and a never ending revolving door in the days directly following the shooting. However, as more time passes and CJ, Donna, and the rest of the gang attempt to go back ti business as usual at the White House Josh feels remarkably lonely.
Cue Donna and Toby saving the day.

Summary
He always circled back to Josh. His smile and voice and laugh and personality had invaded Sam’s psyche. He couldn’t go out on a date without comparing the person to Josh, and of course they never matched up. It was sad. Sam lived a sad, sad life.
