“I know you don’t trust him,” Bruce says, “but I do.”
“You trust him because you don’t understand,” Luka snaps. “You have seen death. I know it. Yet you are blinded to what he is. I can’t train him any more than I already have.”
Bruce knows what the answer will be, but he still stubbornly presses, “Why?”
“Because he will kill again,” Luka grits out. “It’s inevitable. He’s a psychopath, is he not?”
“…Yes,” Bruce reluctantly confirms, “he is. But that doesn’t make him a bad person.”
(Despite the risks, Minhkhoa told Bruce about his psychopathy early on. Luka’s suspicion still sours their training in Canada, but this time Bruce has the means to actually change his mind.)

"I went back to Asia," Minhkhoa replied, vaguely noncommittal. "Korea."
He took Bruce's hand - the hand not on his chest - and interlocked their fingers. There was a long moment of quiet. He could feel his own heartbeat against Bruce's palm, so aware of the touch. Increasingly aware of how much he'd missed it. At last, he murmured, "I assumed saying goodbye would be enough."
“But…it wasn’t,” Bruce continued for him.
(When Bruce sacrificed himself to kill Darkseid, he left Minhkhoa behind. A year later, now that Minhkhoa has brought him back, Bruce has to face the partner he abandoned.)

Minhkhoa exhales just as carefully, trying not to tense. It will do him no good to start an argument right now.

(This was intended to be a platonic fic, but the more I read through this abomination of a story, the more it seems like they're flirting, so, oh well. If you're hoping they'll kiss, they don't. They may be OOC, but it's a crackfic, so what did you expect.)
