And many before her got the option for the two they wished to have as their companions, but Zelda did not, she was assigned the silent wielder of the Master Sword and every dutiful daughter of a clan that had banished her. ^^Seriously go read it^^Link had just saved Hyrule from Ganondorf, he was told to rest. He didn't know how or what that really was. He half expected to die going against the man corrupted by his lust for power. Something in him knew it wouldn't take long before things would descend again. He could never relax. Zelda was the only one that could ease him by helping him keep busy. He wasn't her personal knight anymore. Not bound by order anymore but bound by his own refusal to live a life outside of service.
Even if he couldn't get a certain red Zora out of his head. Sent him letters of his daily duties and Sidon would send his own letters back (all of which are full of the Zora prince's enthusiasm). But outside of that, Link never addresses what he wants. He's not allowed to want, he's never allowed himself to want, to need, to demand, to be human.
He's always poised to be ready for the next battle.
The next puzzle.
The next time he needs to lay his life down.
It comes as he expects, takes everything from him once more.
But this time....he doesn't expect the crushing weight of.....all of it. -

Link had thought about what it would feel like to finally defeat Ganon. He thought he'd feel nothing but victory and peace, but as Ganon was reduced to a pile of dust and he reunited with Zelda, another feeling struck him.
Grief. It was grief.
He'd only felt it in such intensity once before, after freeing Vah Medoh. Something about the short encounter with Revali sent a sparkle of grief up his heart, and by the brief look on Revali’s face, he hadn't been the only one.
And the most frustrating part was that Link had no idea why.Or: An exploration into Link's grief and frustration upon his lost memories, with a side of Revalink.

So Link decides to take him under his wing and teach him all he needs to know. He wasn't planning on falling for him, but the first words Dark speaks to him solidifies his feelings. Now they can't quite get rid of each other.
