Velwyn Ingellvar through the time before they met Varric and became "Rook", twenty or so years of a different life leading to one he never expected to have. The time before meeting his first husband to finally letting themselves fall for the man. Clemens Aviena, son of a Tevinter Magister who was spending some time in Nevarra for his own comfort, stumbles upon a tailor shop and a twenty year old Velwyn who, at first, wanted nothing to do with the man outside of being a customer. Velwyn has more things to worry about than a romance with a overly sweet and charming mage from Tevinter who seemed nothing akin to the stories Velwyn heard of high society sorts from there. And yet, they still end up falling for the man after a time.
This story follows, briefly, twenty odd years of Velwyn's life before everything went wrong. Grief, loss, more than one should have in a lifetime. During which they have a moment of respite, of a bright spot that comes of a charming fellow Mourn Watcher; Emmrich Volkarin. Both with their own anxieties of a new relationship at their ages and after a twenty year marriage. Velwyn finds comfort in the kindness of Emmrich and hopes more can come of their companionship.
