    Most of Davey’s life as a prince was easy.

    He had his duties, sure. Lessons to take, ceremonies to attend, meetings to sit in on. Most of them were at least fairly easy, if not rivetingly interesting.

    In fact, he liked the lessons. He’d always enjoyed reading, and learning in general, and he’d never minded spending his mornings tucked away in the library or with a tutor, learning history or studying policies or practicing his mapmaking or whatever else he was told to do. He didn’t hate meetings as much as either of his siblings, either, although they did get pretty boring, pretty often. Ceremonies weren’t the most fun, but they were tolerable.

    In fact, there was really only one part of his life that he hated without a doubt.

There was something happening and Jack was ridiculously out of the loop, which was beyond frustrating. Wasn't he supposed to be in the loop? Weren't he and Dave supposed to be best friends, or selling partners or co-presidents or whatever? He was tired of trying to catch that anxious green gaze, tired of chasing after answers.

    What in the world could've been bothering Davey enough to push him to this level of silence? Jack was bound and determined to get to the bottom of it, even if it meant pushing his other priorities aside.

      ALDAAOJSBDB THIS IS THE BEST EVER NEWSIES FIC OMG

      Like I’ve read a few others before this that have been really good but this one had me HOOKED

      I LOVE that Jack and Davey’s romance isn’t rushed in this!! I know that’s a little easier to do when it can span over a trilogy (literally exploded and then died from excitement when I saw there were 2 more to read lol), but I still see a lot of Javey fics where it just doesn’t feel super authentic or it feels a little rushed. This one was laced really nicely though!! Both with their relationship and also just in general! The fic does a great job at expanding on key events from the book whilst also not over explaining certain plot points.

      AND THE CROSSOVERS BETWEEN HUNGER GAMES AND NEWSIES????

      Every time I thought I’d predicted how each character would play into the universe I’d get jumpscared by a plot twist. But they also made perfect sense!! I love that you diverted just enough from each fandom so you couldn’t predict things. And (SPOILER WARNING) when I tell you I was SHOOK when I read about Jack’s arm?? OH MY GOD??? AND I IMMEDIATELY REALISED HE MIGHT NEVER BE ABLE TO DRAW AGAIN I WAS GONNA CRY OMFG

      THANK GOD THE CAPITOL IS TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED

      I am so so excited to see how the other newsies play into the later fics (if they do…I’m assuming they do lol) And also how Snyder might play into things here because he didn’t come up! He might not even come up but nevertheless I am definitely curious lol

      ALSO ISTG IF THIS FOLLOWS THE CANON AND IVE GOTTA WATCH LES DIE IM GONNA CRASH OUT OMG

      And also I’m super excited about the next one- which I haven’t read the description for yet so if I’m way off forgive me- to see how they incorporate the “past victors” concept

      Also LOVED Katherine as Effie omg. I don’t hate Katherine but I do like to hate on her a little bit, so this was like the perfect role for her (for me) lol

      AND MISS MEDDA OMG I ACTUALLY LOVED THAT

      Also loved the other tributes- love as in I hate the Delanceys but also SMALLS NOOOOOO I KNEW IT FROM THE START BUT NOOOO

      Ranting a little now but it was cool that instead of giving Davey the zero like he (and also I) expected he got the 10??? It made perfect sense as well and I love it

      AND YOU KEPT JACKS ACCENT, I LOVE OMG <333

      I am a massive Jack girl (who isn’t lmao) and obviously I absolutely loved him in this fic, but I was surprised but how much I also loved Davey in this fic?!! Like I always like Davey, but his perspective and his character were written so incredibly well that I loved him just as much as Jack. I loved that he got his own skills and strengths, while also of course getting his weaknesses. I wasn’t really sure what I expected for him going into the fic, but I’ve always subconsciously viewed Jack as the “street smart” survivalist, so while I had ideas for him I wasn’t really sure what Davey was gonna bring to the table.

      BUT HE COOKED BRO OMG

      But he also wasn’t TOO good, like he made mistakes and he almost died more than enough times to feel human, and that made him a really balanced and well written character in my opinion. And you know who else fit this too? JACK <333 As said, I’m always biased when it comes to Jack so I tend to overlook his character flaws sometimes, but I’m glad that he also very clearly made mistakes, both in his judgements and his actions. He also was given skills but not overpowered, again making him another well balanced character. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE how you incorporated his art skills into his actually survival in the arena!! Like I know that strategy was done by Peta in the actual book/film, but I’m glad his “I like to draw” stuff wasn’t just included as a checklist to the canon early in the fic and forgotten or something.

      AND IRRELEVANT TO THAT BUT OMG I ACTUALLY LOVED THE TWO HEADED COIN THATS SO CUTE

      Tragically grieving that I don’t also have one smh

      And also irrelevant but Pulitzer as Snow is SO perfect
      Like my ass really went “hmmm maybe Snyder will be Snow” halfway through but HELL NO PULITZER IS PERFECT AS SNOW

      As much as I want to keep rambling (so bad) I feel like I’ve summarised the most important things I wanted to gush about with this fic

      Oh but I will say for the sake of my fixated brain I wish it was longer

      Like pacing and writing wise it’s perfect but MAN do I wish I could read this for another 30+ hours

      GOOD THING IVE GOT TWO MORE FICS TO GO LETS GOOOO
      I will be grieving once I’ve finished all of those though
      …maybe I’ll conduct the Manhattan burial rites :(
      WHICH WERE ALSO A SUPER COOL AND NICHE TOUCH ALSNDNBDBD

      OH and one more thing I really liked their outfits for the parade with the news banners and stuff, that was a very neat way to incorporate their “Newsies” title and the set design <33
