So when he turns up at her bedroom door three nights later asking her to wipe his memory, it feels like the second chance she’s spent the past seven years waiting for.
If they are going to have any shot at a future though, first she will finally have to be honest with him about the past.

I dream of Garrick again, the two of us together, tangled up in his bed at some distant outpost that I’ve never actually seen, the sound of our cries the sweetest harmony I’ve ever heard. When I wake, my skin is flushed and I’ve kicked off my blankets into a jumbled mess on the floor.
My heart still races.
I swallow hard, drag myself out of bed. Those dreams, growing more and more frequent, are certainly inconvenient, but I’m not going to complain when the only other dreams I seem to have lately are of Garrick being killed out there in Samara. Or memories of Resson playing over and over like one of Kaori’s projections. I’ll take sexual frustration over those dreams any day.
I hear Sorrengail’s door snap shut a floor below, just as it has at this ungodly hour every day this week, and pull on my own uniform with a groan. I made a promise. Guess it’s time to go see why the hell she’s been running every morning.

I bring my fingers down to his forearm, tracing over the curve of hard won muscles with featherlight touches, transfixed by the sight of my skin on his, the feel of him against me. His warmth, his bulk, his breath, his everything. “Good morning,” I tell him, voice still scratchy with sleep as he grinds into me from behind.
“Good morning.” He punctuates it with a kiss to my shoulder, slipping the thin strap of my top down, as the fingers of his other hand circle my clit through my shorts.
“I’m surprised you’re still here,” I sigh, letting my head fall back against his bare chest and breathing in the clean, sharp scent of him.

“Yeah, I’m sure that excuse would have gone over real well if Sorrengail fell to her death.” Never mind the fact that if she fell to her death, there would be no Riorson to react to it.
“Well then, it’s a good thing she didn’t fall,” Garrick counters, flashing me a smile. “And lucky for me and Bodhi, Xaden’s been too preoccupied ever since to chew us out over that particular possibility.”
I heave a sigh, shaking my head. “Yes, but you still–shit.”
“Imogen?” Garrick’s voice shifts quickly into concern, but I barely hear him as my eyes snap to the sky, familiar silhouettes briefly blocking out the midday sun as they dive for a spot not far from us. The boys follow me as I jump to my feet.
“What are they doing here?” I hiss, shooting an accusing glare towards Garrick.
He throws his hand up, eyes wide. “I have no idea. I swear. The plan was to meet up tomorrow. Xaden didn’t say anything about–”
“Xaden.” Bodhi’s voice cuts Garrick off, his head snapping towards the boulders at the far side of the clearing, the path leading around the corner to a slightly more secluded area. Right where the fliers were headed. “He went off with Violet.”

The first battle of War Games is nearly a disaster. We nearly lose Liam.
It’s nearly a lot of things, but in the end we come out on top.
By the next morning, there’s a dangerous spark of hope in my chest. Just one more of these stupid battles to survive for the year. Liam isn’t dead. Bodhi isn’t dead. Riorson isn’t dead. Garrick isn’t dead. Fourth Wing seems to have a pretty good track record for Tyrrish rebel children this year after all.
When I open my door, intent on getting an early start for the breakfast line, I pause and narrow my eyes at the figure waiting against the opposite wall. Garrick flashes me a smile closing the space between us in a few quick strides before I let him into my room at his pointed look.
“What are you—”
“I have gossip for you.”

From our side of the sparring gym, Liam watches me watching Garrick, and I almost want to slam his face into the wall. Unfortunately, I owe my life just as much to his mother as I do to Xaden, so I refrain. Even when his knowing little smirk sparks something ugly under my skin.
“You look bored, Liam,” I tell him, faux sweetness coloring my tone as I toss a smile his way. “How about you get in the ring with me?” Because I may owe his mother my life, but I have no qualms about giving him a few bruises to wipe that look off his face.
“I’m busy,” he offers apologetically, holding up the carving he’s working on, but his eyes flash to Sorrengail just long enough for me to catch. Guard duty. I roll my eyes.
I’ve taken my focus off Garrick long enough that I hadn’t noticed his match ending. Or that he’d crossed the gym, heading right toward me.
“You need a sparring partner?”

Imogen swallowed before speaking, “You know where they’re going.” It wasn’t a question.
”Don’t ask me to tell you.”
She wasn’t planning to. She would find out anyways when she took Violet’s memories from her.
“Garrick’s going with him?” When Violet nodded, she asked, “And where is Bodhi?”
”I don’t know.”
That was probably a lie, but Imogen would find out the truth in a few moments, “Are you sure about this?” She asked one more time.
When Violet nodded, she exhaled and reached for her temples, “This might hurt a little bit.”
She didn’t know if she was talking to herself or Violet.

Summary
Set in the aftermath of the final battle in Onyx Storm, this three-chapter fic envisions Garrick Tavis finding Imogen Cardulo struggling after the loss of her best friend. Alone at a midland outpost with nothing to do, they share dinner, drinks, dancing, and finally, some real feelings. Dragons have opinions, as they do. Imogen tries to fist fight Garrick, as she does. Garrick loves Imogen, as he always has.

"What happened to taking it easy?" Chradh asks."
What? I don’t have patrol until tomorrow. Is there a threat I should be aware of?"
He snorts. "Your own idiocy if you get too drunk with Imogen, and we both know it," he answers.
"Okay, well. I’m not trying to get drunk with Imogen for that reason," I argue.
"You’re always trying to get drunk with Imogen for that reason."
“I’ll get more beers,” I say to Imogen, rather than continuing this discussion with Chradh. -

Summary
Four years after losing the two most important people in her life, it's finally Imogen Cardulo's turn to arrive at Basgiath War College, where she'll either survive the parapet, bond a dragon and serve Navarre-the country that killed her family-or die trying. But Imogen is not the Imogen from Fourth Wing, not yet. In this series of shorts, she will have any innocent ripped from her when she faces prejudices beyond her wildest dreams, including fellow cadets who immediately want to kill her. She also reunites with many of our favorite marked ones from Fourth Wing, including Garrick Tavis, Xaden Riorson, and Bodhi Durran, and she even seems to make a few new friends.
This is an exploration of some of the scenes from my Xaden Riorson - Year 2 story from Imogen's POV, along with a few new scenes that give us some complexity into Imogen's character. These character "snapshots" allow me to develop some of the characters in Xaden's story that don't quite fit in with the rest of the story. And of course, we'll start getting a look at Garrick and Imogen's...er...relationship, along with her friendships with Bodhi and Quinn.
