“With all due respect, Mr. President,” Okoye says softly. “I signed an oath to protect you no matter what, and Nat feels the same. And I’m guessing Barnes does too, given…everything.”
Sliding his eyes sideways, Steve sees two pink spots surface above Bucky’s cheekbones for a moment before disappearing.
“A’course I do.” Bucky’s voice wavers only a little, but Steve knows just how much emotion lies behind those words. “Only I’m protecting my best friend, president or no president.”

As Fury disappears around the corner toward his own office on the other side of the West Wing, Steve heads into the Oval Office. The blast of air conditioning is a shock, but a welcome one.
He’s relieved at the coolness, but is also keenly aware of a sharp feeling of untethered loneliness. Not for the first time this month — not even for the first time this week — he feels desperately alone and isolated. Even amongst his wonderful staff and with a lovely, adoring wife.
Images of Bucky, pacing down Columbia Street in Brooklyn, sitting commandingly astride Steve’s hips and riding his dick, lying in bed with him and talking, that sweet smile flashing across his face like a sunrise, race through Steve’s head all at once and a sharp pain lances through his chest.
Suddenly the only thing Steve wants in the world is to get away with the love of his life, to hide in a remote paradise as far away from his duties and colleagues as possible and spend his days worshipping Bucky the way he deserves.
“Mr. President?” Okoye’s voice is concerned but cautious, as if she’s nervous about overstepping her remit.
“I’m OK, Okoye. Really.”

He’s almost three years out of the ice, living in Avengers Tower, leading ops for Tony Stark and SHIELD and partnering with Nat and Clint (in more ways than one) in a thriving private security side business. But then he meets arrogant tech billionaire James Barnes, and it’s hate at first sight. Barnes is a terrible dickhead; it’s a shame he’s so hot and so good in bed. Steve can’t get him out of his head, and his life is further complicated by a hypercompetent vigilante assassin who almost ruins one of his private security jobs. Who is “the Winter Soldier” and how is he so good? And why does Steve secretly sympathize with his anti-fascist, pro-environment agenda? When Fury calls Steve to DC to protect Project Insight from the Soldier, Steve’s life gets even more complicated. But everything is resolved to everyone’s satisfaction (except the Nazis), with a little spycraft and a lot of explosions along the way.

Driving up to the entrance of Fort Meade your sharp eyes slide over the metal fencing surrounding the base. Three armed guards stand watch with rifles at the barriers blocking the width of the road, and you shake out the momentary nerves flashing through your chest.
“This is a stupid plan.” Natasha warns through the phone pressed to your ear.
“What on Earth is wrong with you people?” You stress, much to Natasha dismay, “This is a great plan.”
You hear Sam’s echoing sigh through the speaker and you fight back a snigger, “You’re only saying that because it’s your damn plan.”
“Exactly, and I’m a genius,” You reply, fishing around clumsily in the glove box for your ID card, “I expect this to be taken into account when I apply to be an Avenger.”
“I keep telling you, you’re not going to be an Avenger.” Natasha says, voice stern and clipped at the edges.
“I’ll fly away in the suit myself and leave you all here, don’t test me.”

Anatoly Kynazev didn't expect his contract with HYDRA to end so suddenly, nor did he expect to go home with the literal Winter Soldier.
Veterans shouldn't be kept in dirty cages and beaten around like rabid dogs. They also shouldn't be left to die far from the sun. Anatoly isn't quite sure what the Soldier did to deserve this, but he's quite sure that the punishment doesn't fit the crime. What he hadn't been counting on was that the HYDRA operative tasked with jailing the Soldier would be willing to sell. Only a fool would pass up that offer and the Soldier has such pretty blue eyes. What he wasn't counting on, though, was how skittish the Soldier would be or the intensity of Anatoly's own feelings.
Hopefully, he won't regret this decision. And if he does, hopefully the Winter Soldier will make it better.
