Geralt barely had time to throw up Quen.
The Sign flared, a dull gold shimmer, before the creature struck. The impact threw him back, the shield cracking like ice. Steel rang on talon. Feathers and fur filled his vision. The beast shrieked, a sound that clawed the air apart.
Jaskier’s shout was lost in the roar.
Geralt rolled, came up on one knee, slashed low. The blade met hide and bit shallowly — not enough. The griffin reared, blood spattering the snow, wings beating with hurricane force. Geralt’s hood was torn away.
Another strike — a flash of claws — and pain like fire seared across his ribs. He stumbled back, breath torn from him. Quen guttered and failed.

Geralt couldn’t take it, the sight of him, the earnest drawl of his words, “I love you, Jas.”
He pressed closer, whispering into Jaskier’s ear, hidden by the wall of the stairs, “I love you so very much, My Jaskier.”
Geralt wasn’t sure when he began to utter such words. He wasn’t sure when proclamations came so easily to him, but the words did. They did with Jaskier. In the intimate bubble, with no one listening to them but the stars - Geralt liked it that way.
He liked having Jaskier all to himself.
Perhaps the Bard was weakening his soul.
A finger was suddenly being pushed against his furrowed brows, “You’re thinking naughty thoughts about me, Geralt.”
Perhaps Geralt didn’t mind.

In Geralt's life, more often than not, touch meant pain. From being held down during the trials, to blows exchanged during fights, every unpleasant touch of skin against skin was only amplified by his enhanced senses.
The only people who he trusted to respect his boundaries, whose touch brought comfort instead of pain, were Eskel, Lambert, and Vesemir. He only saw them during winter, but that was fine. He could go nine months of the year without friendly touch; he'd been doing it for decades. It was better this way, better for everyone.

Please allow me to withdraw my prayer, no one needs to die,” Jaskier says shakily, and even though there is fear in the bard’s heart for his own life, largely there is regret and horror that he asked for Valdo’s death.
The demigod sighs softly, going down to one knee in front of the mortal, and very gently tilting Jaskier’s face to look up at him with a gloved finger under the bard’s chin. The witcher tries to make his stern countenance a gentler one and offers the man a small but sad smile as he murmurs in his gravelly baritone, “That’s not how this works, Jaskier. I can…set aside your request, as it were, but it doesn’t just go away. A prayer made must be answered.”

The young man followed Jaskier up the stairs, very conspicuously even though he was trying to lag behind. Geralt felt something odd rise in his chest, something angry and feverish. He found his own lodging in the place across the road. He lays in bed, staring a the ceiling, confused by the unfamiliar things fluttering in his chest. Eventually, he drifted off to thoughts he would rather not admit.

Basically Jaskier has hidden bardic powers that Geralt must investigate, then Jaskier gets hurt and it reveals his childhood trauma. Finally, Jaskier gets some of the love he deserves from Geralt.
