An indigo hue peeks over the distant ridges of the southwest, sipping your warm brew you see the shapes, shadows and echoes of times long past still engraved in the desert's structure.
A distant shuffling of boots can be heard, somebody needs to pick up their feet more. You tilt your head to the side and hum in acknowledgement, still looking forward towards the gorgeous natural canvas displayed before you.
The shuffling stops next to you, presence looming, yet peaceful. Assured, yet hesitant. Strong, yet safe.
Unspoken acknowledgement. Respect.
With the first sliver of yellow crossing over the horizon, the cutting sound of a trumpet can be heard seamlessly transitioning tranquility to reality.

For the first time ever, I will be attempting Kinktober. I am already starting way behind, so I make no promises that I will post something for every day but by golly will I try!
I will be posting the second half of the month as its own fic, that way I don't have to worry about running out of tags and can tag more thoroughly and accurately. Archive warnings only apply to some chapters, it will be obvious by the chapter titles and notes which ones will contain such content.
I'm forcing myself to write each chapter in one sitting and post as is because otherwise this will never get done, so forgive the length and quality of what you see here. Happy Kinktober nasty bitches!

There was once a joke amongst the Greeks, written into one of Plato's greatest works. Although his goal was to make fun of Aristophenes the old playwright, the idea of humans as beings split in two, each possessing one half of a whole soul, has remained within in our public conscience.
Nowadays, the idea of humans once having four arms, four legs, and two heads seems silly. But the thought of finding someone, one day, with a soul and body that completes yours, is truly a rather romantic idea.Ludwig doesn't think it a very romantic idea. He's rather a pragmatic man. He isn't looking for love, or connection, but for a cure to a sickness he imposed on himself.
Mikhail doesn't think it a possibility at all. He doesn't deny the mark upon his body, the way it itches whenever he wonders about soulmates. But he finds it a silly endeavour, to search for a soul you may not even get along with.
Neither of them are quite sure what to make of the whole 'soulmate' business, and maybe that's why they gravitate towards each other. The selfless man who doesn't believe, and the selfish man who has to believe.
