Summary
Regulus Black is fine, he had a rough childhood, but he left his abusive family at nineteen, and by twenty-nine he’s bounced back just fine. He’s a successful lawyer at a firm alongside his twin brother Sirius, and their adoptive brother James. He has friends who love him, a healed relationship with his twin, and is about to be an uncle to Sirius’s first son. He might be the only one in his found family who isn’t coupled up and building a family, but he is under no circumstances one thing: lonely.
So it's quite unfortunate when Sirius’s paternity leave forces Regulus to take a personal injury car accident case involving Riddle Enterprises CEO, Tom Riddle and the Weasley family, and suddenly repressed memories and demons from his past start coming back to bite him. Regulus also meets a boy unlike any he’s ever encountered, who forces him to grapple with the real reasons behind why love has never been in the picture for him. In a world where repression has always been Regulus’s way to outrun the past, he isn’t sure if he’ll ever truly be able to escape the Black in his name and ledger. All the while Sirius is a very tired but happy father and emotional support brother here for all of Regulus’s dramatic revelations. -

Sirius never could play the part of Black Heir exactly right. The lines Walburga fed him fell out of his disingenuous mouth all wrong; Regulus was never sure if it was his lack of conviction to the cause or his resentment at parroting Walburga’s vitriol.

“What, exactly, does it mean? That they’re Unforgivable?” Even as preoccupied as he was, Sirius knew the question came out of his mouth well-formed, with a tone of polite and genuine curiosity. He’d had the ability beat into him, quite literally.
“Well,” his professor began, doing a decent job at hiding her disbelief that Sirius was participating in a lecture, “using any one of these curses on a fellow human being is highly illegal and punishable to the fullest extent of wizarding law.”
Sirius couldn’t help it, he let out a strangled sort of laugh. He must have heard her wrong. A tirade of thoughts flashed through his head, yet all he could manage to say was, “what?”
“These are very serious crimes, Mr. Black,” his professor lectured, perhaps mistaking his confusion for something else, “and using any one of them earns the witch or wizard a one-way trip to Azkaban.”
“Well, not everyone,” he replied, before his brain could stop him.
