Flashes of his time in hell and what Lucifer did to him are just bubbling below the surface itching to get out, until one memory brings his world crashing down around him. There's only one person Sam can bear to be around, Dean. That is, until he actually tells Dean what's going on.
Sam decides the best thing to do is take some time away from it all, away from hunting, away from Dean, away from everything in the hope that it'll clear his head, but by the time he's realized his mistake, he's already too far gone to come back from it.

I wanted you to shake your sweat on me as when we were small, the smell of you pungent and sharp in my nose. It made me thirsty and I almost licked your shoulder for the taste.
Did you see that in my face? I think you must have because your smile turned sad and your eyes were hungry. I fought to tell you it was all right, that you had no need of sadness, but my tongue felt thick in my mouth.

Alastor finds himself roped into helping plan the surprise party to celebrate Angel's one year anniversary of being a resident of the hotel. The deer demon is content to participate in his usual mildly chaotic way until he notices the spider acting strangely -- listless, frowning, and carrying boxes up to his room for some reason. When Alastor confronts Angel he learns a startling secret: Angel promised himself that if he failed to find redemption after a full year at Hazbin, he would admit defeat and leave.
Needless to say, Alastor is flummoxed at this unexpected information...and even further frustrated by how the revelation makes him feel. Angel is his foil, his friendly foe, his favorite sinner to bicker and banter with. The idea of the hotel without him is simply unacceptable!
So Alastor embarks on a mission to make Angel stay at the hotel, no matter the wacky costs it might require!

One of my favorite fics, just off of the worldbuilding and off of the fact that events that are referenced in conversations later on (conversations that Midoriya uses to put other people at ease, or to share a bit of himself). Everything that is referenced, we see. And so we get to feel just as much a part of this journey as Midoriya himself, and it feels so much more /personal/that way. I love how this fic just GETS fusion, too, in all the ways I’ve always wanted someone to understand it, and it will forever be one of my references because of that.
