Summary
“Glad to see you back among the living,” Phainon says through a yawn, clearly having spent the night in the uncomfortable chair in the infirmary by Mydei’s side. Like he often does.
Mydei’s head hurts. Just the regular kind of pain, easily managed by ignoring it until it goes away. But what makes it worse, is the confusion at his predicament. The memories returning to him in death used to vary in time and people who appeared in them. Why is it always Phainon nowadays?
“Fuck you,” Mydei says, hoarsely. He feels like he is losing his mind.
Phainon’s mouth locks mid-yawn and he blinks down at him stupidly, tilting his head with confusion. It’s probably fair, he hasn’t even done anything to earn Mydei’s ire as of late.
or; Human brain lives for a few more minutes after dying, replaying the most cherished memories. Mydei starts seeing Phainon after each of his deaths.

He feels a sharp flick to his forehead. Phainon flinches, eyes lifting to meet Mydei’s scowl. Despite the severe expression, there’s a slight flush to his cheeks—his golden eyes shifting from Phainon’s gaze. Something in Phainon sinks like a stone.
“Have you no propriety, Deliverer?” Mydei asks. “Did no one teach you any manners?”
Phainon forces out a sheepish laugh, his smile unsteady.
“My apologies,” he says.

There was a distinct ringing in Phainon’s ears that seemed to be the sound of his brain rattling loose in his skull. What in Kephale’s name was that last bit? They had drunk together only the once, more than a year ago.

Summary
It has been a while since the monthly Chrysos Heirs meeting concluded.
It went by smoothly, as there weren't any pressing matters. Only recurring topics such as the black tide and dealings with the Council of Elders were discussed. Even the usual absentees– Anaxa and Cipher, were present.
The only thing amiss was Phainon’s absence.
Where Phainon gets sick, misses a meeting, has a panic attack, runs away, breaks down, gets taken back home, and realizes that he is loved and cherished. All in that order.

Summary
Mydei turned around, intending to survey how many Titankin were left and to taunt Phainon with his kill count.
Instead, his breath left him and a frigid cold rocketed through his veins.
Phainon stood next to a ruined wall, corpses of Titankin littering the ground around him. His greatsword was buried in the chest of a dying Titankin before him. But despite a second foe rapidly approaching him, Phainon had not yet removed his sword from the corpse. Sweat beaded at his brow, and even at a distance Mydei could tell that his breathing was labored. His hands left the hilt of his sword, and Phainon stared down at them. A mix of confusion and fatigue spread across his face. He stumbled, knees unsteady.
The Titankin behind Phainon raised its weapon.
Mydei had seen this once before. A great warrior brought to heel by some strange, unexplainable force, a fugue state descending upon them.
His mother.
Phainon is poisoned while fighting Titankin, and Mydei relives his worst nightmare. Injuries need tending, and confessions of the past and present are made.

Summary
Phainon swallows all reservations he may have left. “Mydei,” he starts.
Mydei seems to have come to a conclusion of his own too. His lips purse into a thin line, the cutting lines of his jaw set in evident determination. And while his claws tighten on the back of Phainon’s hand, he’s still careful sure to avoid the sharp edges, careful to not allow his grip to even reach close to the cusp of pain. He lifts Phainon’s arm higher, closer to his own face, to check over the wound Phainon assumes reasonably.
It’s the very last thing Phainon expects, for Mydei to lean closer on both knees, chin dipping low as his lips fall just shy of his wound, his tongue — warm, smooth, slick — laying flat on his bloodied skin.
”Mydei,” Phainon repeats breathlessly, a tad bit horrified, infinitely more enthralled.
[or, in which phainon just about nearly succumbs to a very specific fatal poison that definitely needs to be removed, pronto. coincidentally, mydei just happens to have a particular resistance to that specific poison.]

As he falls, Phainon sees it: a brilliant flash of crimson, like fire, cutting through the Titankin like a knife through butter. Then crystals; sharp and gleaming like blood, expanding from a single point in the distance and rapidly skewering the remaining Titankin.
The crimson flash turns, bright as the sun, and Phainon stares back, his cape fluttering uselessly behind him like a pair of melted wax wings.
When Phainon plunges into the sea, his gaze meets a familiar pair of hazel eyes as Mydei leaps off the cliff to follow him.
After a mission gone awry, Phainon is hurled into the sea. Mydei saves him.
