Summary
After the fight in the grocery store, Buck feels like he's causing too much damage so he drops the lawsuit and leaves LA, joining a hotshot wildland firefighter crew out of Montana. He's gone for six months until he gets a call from Chris that something is wrong with Eddie, causing him to race back home only to find a very confused Eddie instead of a hurt or depressed Eddie. Eddie talks him into coming inside for a beer and after that Buck can't bring himself to leave the Diaz boys behind again. But that doesn't mean he's ready to talk to anyone else yet. So they just don't tell anyone else Buck is back. For over two years. Even when they start dating.
Three years after he left LA and the 118, there's a pileup on the 210 in La Tuna Canyon Park and a wildfire racing towards all the crews scrambling desperately to get everyone out in time, including the 118. Buck's crew is in the right place at the right time, and they don't hesitate to come help.

The blond kid’s defensiveness immediately hardened into a sneer. He visibly straightened up, puffing out his chest in a subtle shift that made him seem even taller, a clear display of masculine posturing. "Oh, yeah? Didn't see your name on it. Is this your rock? Your blade of grass? Did you pee on the trees to mark your territory?"
The sarcasm grated on Eddie's last nerve. "Some of us come here for peace and quiet. Not to listen to... whatever that noise was."
"It's called music," the kid shot back, his voice dripping with condescension. He took a deliberate step forward, closing the distance between them and invading Eddie's personal space. It was a clear challenge. "You should try it sometime. Might loosen you up." He smirked. "Or is that against the rules in your special, secret clubhouse?"

Buck gives him a sad smile. “Not right now, we aren’t. And we won’t be, Eddie, not for a while.”
Buck and Eddie get injured on the job and decide to smoke a lot of weed about it.

There's no better way to bond than fighting for your lives in the island jungle, and Buck and Eddie are about to be put to the ultimate test. It's up to them and the rest of the 118 to put a stop to the prehistoric attack, and who knows what'll happen along the way.

„What is it then, huh?“ Eddie asks, getting up as well to be on the same level as him. „Why did you put in for a transfer?“ Buck looks at him, breathing heavily, contemplating if he really wants to say it, reveal his innermost feelings. In the end it feels like he doesn’t have any other choice, knowing that Eddie won’t let up otherwise.
„Because I don’t have anybody left.“ It physically pains him to say the words out loud but his voice is surprisingly steady albeit the bitterness that swings with in them.

What if Buck and Eddie were the ones trapped in the collapsed building right after Buck revealed that he put in for a transfer?
or, 8x18 fix-it fic that’s just highly dramatic and Buck is really going through it.

Shen Yuan is dropped off at the foot of a mountain aware of two things: he's in the story, and the Shen Qingqiu of this world is not only aware but thinks he tried to possess his body — and he's PISSED. Shen Yuan tries to opt out and live a simple life on what locals tell him is a monster-infested mountain no one in their right mind would bother with.
