The dramatic irony is delicious. The characterizations are spot on. And the story is absolutely adorable.

Summary
They've made it.
Somewhere Else, out of their dying world and into a new one—a place without the Fears. A place without their history, where Jon and Martin can finally just live.
But with the Eye ripped out of him, Jon's lost a lot that he used to take for granted, including his memory of the past several months. Martin should be doing better, but it's harder than it seems like it should be to put the end of the world out of your head. He figures the least he can do, though, is protect Jon from the knowledge of what they've seen and done. Jon has a lot on his plate, and Martin can cope alone.
Until he can't.

Summary
Of course, of course, it had to be a Leitner.
When Jon saw Martin holding the Leitner, he spent a moment paralyzed with terror. Martin may not be good at his job, but no one deserves the havoc that reading a Leitner can wreak.
Before Jon could reach him, though, Martin had fainted. Falling roughly to the ground, unmoving.
Or:
Martin accidentally reads a Leitner and is de-aged, forcing the Archives staff (mostly Jon) to take care of him.
