    Summary

Phainon dreams of meeting people he has known his whole life. One, however, escapes him. The flame chase journey may be over, but still, Phainon finds himself chasing something, someone, else entirely.
    -
Phainon doesn’t know what to blame, exactly. He just knows that this feeling of failure likes to claw its way into his chest and dig deep. Sometimes it manages its way up his throat, into his vocal chords and out his mouth. He dreamt of seeing a beautiful sea, too beautiful to be real. A man, back turned, walking past the gates of Okhema to embrace his fate, to inherit Strife, to leave everyone behind in the name of the Flame-Chase Journey.

He props a large canvas on his easel and he paints golden eyes and blonde hair, his brushstrokes filled with the red markings of painted-on tattoos; while his heart does its best to leap out of his chest, each stroke followed by shaking hands and the tears in his eyes he doesn’t quite shed.

    Summary

Behind the glass, careful script paints flowery imagery of spars under a golden sun, of quiet dinners that carry low conversations late into the night, endless prose of a domestic life thought impossible. If it is only a hopeless fantasy now, Mydei reads with bated breath, then in every life after I will reach out again and again to take your hand in mine.

Mydei inhales sharply. Turns on his teleslate. Slowly dials Phainon’s number from memory.

Phainon picks up on the first ring. “Mydei! Is something the matter?”

Hearing Phainon’s voice, a million wrong words pool at the tip of his tongue. When were you planning to confess that you’re in love with me, Mydei wants to say.

“I’m at Okhema’s museum for the exhibit you told me about,” Mydei says eventually. “It’s been… informative.” Why did you write a dozen love letters to me in the span of three days, he doesn’t mention.

[in which phainon learns the hard way why keeping track of your belongings is so important. mydei gets ahold of some letters long overdue.]

Mydei’s eye twitched, fingers curling around the apple protectively, “Surely he doesn’t know what it meant… right?” If he did, Mydei would be pissed that Phainon just ran away after dropping this bomb.

Anaxa let out a chuckle, “If you are referring to Mnestia’s myth of tossing apples to mean a declaration of romantic love, then perhaps not. It wasn’t a required part of the Grove’s curriculum.”

Suddenly, an idea blessed by Cerces herself came to him.

    Or,

5 times that Mydei tried to make Phainon blush, and 1 time he actually does

Cipher, a blur of motion and grin, had already secured the vegetable. "Finders keepers! You were bickering, therefore, distracted." Before Phainon could recover, Cipher then snatched a piece of perfectly cooked meat from Mydei's own plate, winking. "And you, Mydei, were staring. Also distracted."

    Summary

The Deliverer: Hey, Stelle, this 'sugar baby' idea sounds interesting!

The Deliverer: I even know a couple of people who'd be very interested in this offer. And they're not even completely disgusting old men!

The Deliverer: I just really hope that pulling their sad little pods out of their pants isn't part of the evening's mandatory program!

At that moment, the messages vanished, replaced by a short system notice.

The Deliverer: Oops, sorry, wrong chat!

    Mydei's right eye twitched.

One small mistake leads to: the merchants of Okhema counting unexpected profits; Phainon's acquaintances becoming wary of buying him a drink; the townsfolk following the Deliverer's every move, hoping to see more people who decide to touch him 'unexpectedly' slip and fall beside him (and the grim Kremnosian prince, of course, has absolutely nothing to do with it). We'll also see a war council disguised as a slumber party. And, of course, someday the Deliverer will learn how to smile seductively instead of looking like he's been constipated for a week... but that's another story entirely.
