Summary
Jayce slowly removes his hands to see the other man's reaction. He didn't expect Viktor to be positively beaming. His lab partner looks at him with such adoration, like Jayce had just... What, eradicated World Hunger? Right there, on Viktor's living room couch.
"I see. I think I'm just... Well, happy. And surprised. I thought I had seen all the right signs, but even so..." Viktor's voice takes a gloomy turn. "There was always a high probability that it was only my wishful thinking." His eyes dive to the ground, and Jayce feels almost angry.
He gently takes Viktor's cheek and turns his face to him.
"Viktor. I've got this massive crush on you ever since you... Well, interrupted my attempt to throw myself off a ledge. And if saving my sorry ass wasn't enough that one time, you just kept doing it."

Summary
Viktor turned halfway back to his notes on the table, and the low hiss of pain that escaped him as he shifted his legs couldn't be explained away this time.
Jayce came to a halt in front of him. "Viktor, are you alright?"
He expected an usual short remark on how there was no need to worry and it wasn't Jayce's business.Instead, Viktor hesitated, then sighed and met his gaze for a moment. Exhaustion was lining his golden eyes. "It's a small inconvenience."
He tapped against the metal of the construction hugging his right leg.
"The brace is meant to support me walking. Sitting for longer periods of time is, eh, difficult with it."It hurt Jayce that he had never really realised how much the tool that should have made Viktor's life easier actually left him in constant pain.

Or: They are working towards a deadline and Jayce is swinging between concern and gay panic quicker than a metronome, because Viktor is in pain from his badly fitted leg brace but he also just took off his vest. Priorities.
Update: This sweet oneshot escalated into a fully-fledged lovestory. I have nothing to say in my defense.

Summary
In the same instant that it’d begun, the assault of the arcane vanished from his senses. White turned to black, and the queasy sense of turbulent floating became free-fall, and then he was pressed face-down to the cold ground. Eyes screwed shut as he waited for the lingering static under his skin to evaporate. Tingling pins and needles that seemed to signify his flesh relinquished from the void. Eventually, in his haze, he again grew aware of a familiar warmth, beneath his arm and tucked against his side. Instinctively, he curled his arm in closer to his body, pulling the warmth with it. Then he felt it stir.
His eyes shot open as his faculties began to flood back to him. His head remained sluggish, stuffed with wool, but the gears turned just enough to remember what had brought him here.
Viktor. Alive, and human, and snug under his arm.
Jayce and Viktor survive. The world picks up the pieces. There is a balance to be found between mercy and recompense, but Jayce will fight tooth and nail to tip those scales for the man he loves.
OR
My post-canon fluffy angsty fix-it wherein Viktor is put on trial and Jayce tries not to burn the whole city down to save him.
