Summary
Flopping back down, Jack opened the message and then promptly had a fucking stroke. There, under the last messages they'd exchanged yesterday bitching about Gloria and their enforced exile, was a picture of Samira. She was laid out on rumpled white sheets, low cut jeans hugging her hips the only clothing she had on. Her back was arched off the bed a little, hands covering both her breasts, face angled away from the camera.

Summary
Jack closes his eyes, tries to remember what happened. His shift ending. Snow falling heavily. The sidewalk to the parking garage slick. Samira moving towards the bus stop, slipping but catching herself. Him offering to drive her home, the desire to be in her presence just a little longer. The warmth of his car's heater. The skid of a delivery truck on the black ice coming at them head on. The crash of metal and glass. Fighting with the medics when the ambulance arrived. Fighting to get to her.
"Samira." He sits up on the cot, looking around him wildly. She'd been put into an ambulance before him. Flashes of her being pulled from his arms by EMTs while he fought to keep her. "Where is she?"
"Just got in before you." Langdon assures him. "Robby's got her. She's safe."
"I need to see her." he tries to get out of the bed, but Jesse and Donnie are on his other side pulling him back while Langdon pushes against him. Jack's hand flies out, grips the younger doctor's wrist tightly. "I swear to whatever god you believe in, Langdon, I will knock you out if I don't lay eyes on her in the next minute."

She'd known Jack had a soft spot for her. Knew he looked out for her more than the others they worked with. He sent her obscure case reports, guided her through batshit insane procedures, brought her coffee, and made sure she ate. He drove her home after night shifts and fixed her radiator when her slumlord wouldn't.
But loving her? Even...even wanting her? She hadn't known that. Hadn't even let herself imagine it. Samira was hard edged and complicated and had been told several times before that she was hard to care for. How could he want to take all that on by choosing to love her?

Summary
Jack had never been a hot-headed man, even in his younger years. He'd seen how anger controlled his father, made him a mean and volatile man, and swore to himself at a very young age that he would never be like him. It wasn't that he didn't get angry, because he did, but he was always in control. Always carefully calm and calculated. Trained in hand-to-hand combat, in both lethal and non-lethal defense and offense, a skilled marksman. Honed into the perfect soldier, and then wholly abandoned by his government when he was no longer of use to them. Still, he wasn't quick to anger, even through the PTSD and flashbacks. Mood stabilizers helped, but he was more prone to panic, depression, and suicidal ideation than violence towards others without them.
Right now, however, he was having a hard time keeping that in mind. Not when some other man was smiling at Samira like he knew he was going to take her home.
