EMF paced and chewed at his claws. He ignored the faint sting in one of them as he accidentally bit down to the quick, and he ignored the aching of his feet caused by the prolonged movement. If he stopped moving, he felt like he was going to explode.
Evbo was courting Seawatt.

Summary
Evbo had come to the conclusion fairly early on that the particles originated from players, but what he couldn’t quite understand was why some players glowed more than others. Ally, for example, had a faint sheen that hovered around them, floating calmly but sparsely.
Most players were like that, he learned. Some were brighter, some dimmer. Occasionally a player would be so dim that the glow was barely there, but there was always something.
EMF was blinding.Evbo has always hated the way that he looks. EMF thinks that everything about him is perfect.

It- he- was incredibly tiny. Before they even cleaned the little thing up, they could see the telltale signs of jaundice from an underdeveloped liver, and while he squirmed and whined, he didn’t cry. His noises were soft, muffled. Weak. His breathing wasn’t as strong or steady as they would have liked.
And now, Ally had to make a decision.EMF and Seawatt call upon Ally to save Evbo and, if at all possible, their youngest child, after the godling falls gravely ill.

Cel didn’t quite understand what the players were saying. They understood the words, yes, but not what they meant in the context that was being used. They furrowed their brow, shooting their little brother a confused glance as they finished the translation. He gave a shrug.
What they did understand, though, was the tone they were using. Dripping with sarcasm and malice. Oozing with clear dislike for the players they were talking about.
“Betcha anything Seawatt beats those kids,” the younger man said suddenly.
“Nah, man. Ya’ hear the way the Parkour God talked to the oldest girl? They’re all beating on them. I’d bet a stack of glass blocks on it.”
“You know what they say. All kids deserve a parent, but not every parent deserves a kid.”
“Gonna be honest, man. Not sure how much that applies here.”
“Why’s that, huh?”
“‘Cause, didya actually look at those kids? Honestly, that’s the kind of thing that the old Parkour God and Champion wouldn’t let slide.”Celeste and Starry learn far more than they wanted to about the way the world views their parents... and themselves.

Or: What happens when you come to rely on something with otherworldly origins too much, and it decides its code would be much better off merged with yours. After all, it was once living as well, and if you use it so much, surely having it as a permanent fixture in your life would be more of a boon than a curse.
It's only a shame that the process is so painful.
Maybe less of a shame that the people around you love you enough to help, though.
