In front of her Shen Qingqiu sat ramrod straight in the middle of a cot in Qian Cao’s infirmary. She only knew it was him from the now-overlarge robes held tight against his slight frame. Whatever the latest qi deviation had done left him hardly into his teen years, rendered even smaller by the way his shoulders were ratcheted up nearly to his ears. He hadn’t noticed her hovering outside the door yet, his sharp eyes trained warily on the two men animatedly discussing his condition on the other side of the room. It was making him increasingly anxious, the emotion souring in his scent.
A scent Qi Qingqi had never smelled before.
A kunze’s scent.
Shen Qingqiu’s qi deviation doesn’t kill him. Instead old misconceptions are resolved and replaced with newer, more interesting misconceptions.
