Christopher Pike woke up a few days after graduating from Starfleet Academy with the mark of the Beloved on his hand, labeling him as a benevolent demi-god of sorts, the likes had been missing from the universe for some 200 years. Unfortunately for Chris, he had Very specific plans for his life, none of which include all the nonsense that comes with the whole position, and honestly, the idea of having what might as well be considered magical powers unnerved him.

Summary
Being on a wide-ranging mission exploring space comes with the occasional bump in the road, and when Jim makes a genuinely *tiny* mistake at the end of a successful diplomatic mission, events that could have otherwise happened take a very different turn when another diplomatic mission they should have had is assigned to another ship due to their captain's status following said tiny mistake. Yet, somehow, chaos manages to find them anyway.
Or, how Bones thinks Jim is beyond adorable, but he just wants his damn boyfriend back, thank you very much.

Once upon a time, a young first officer lucked out with his captain's early promotion, leaving him the youngest captain in Starfleet at only 29.
Three months later, he walked into the mess at Starfleet Academy and met a 19 year old with big storm blue eyes and floppy hair, and one argument about the desert later, he was enchanted (but refused to admit it, he's ten years older than the kid, after all.) Thankfully for his sanity, he shipped back out a week later, but kept in contact.
This is a little tale of two idiots and close to 30 years of driving their friends utterly mad.
(This is a prequel of the entire Western Skies series, and will not make much sense if you haven't read the other stories in the series.)

He didn’t know how he got so lucky. He’d looked up to Cid from nearly the first moment he’d met him. He was someone strong and capable and so full of empathy, fighting to create a better world for everyone. And that magnificent person had chosen him, of all people. Chosen to help free him, chosen to train him as his protege. Chosen him as his lover. It made Clive’s heart skip whenever he thought of it. Those strong hands, that salacious smile, those piercing eyes. They were all his.
Well, they were mostly his. Clive had learned quickly that Cid was free with his affection with most everyone in the Hideaway, it was just in his nature. Always a hand on someone’s shoulder, a pat on the back, a fistbump against someone’s arm or chest. He was gregarious with physical affection, it was how he showed he cared.
It was how he used to show he cared to Clive too.
