Summary
The thing was, right, that "could be" in a hypothetical sense was different than "could be" in real life. Hypothetically, sure: Izzy had one set of bits, Ed and Stede had another. Sometimes, hypothetically, you put those bits together and, given time to cook, the end result was a tiny little squalling human. But hypothetically was different than real life, because Ed and Iz had been fucking since they found out what fucking was. In all that time they’d never, not once, ended up with a baby.
I hate the "unplanned pregnancy heals the relationship" trope. This fic is about that.

Summary

Captured, alone and more uncertain of his place in the world than he's ever been, Izzy has to contend with the choices he's made. Can he stay alive long enough to make better ones?
Meanwhile on the Revenge, Ed and Stede's romance blossoms even as they're both haunted by their own regrets. These regrets lead them to try and correct some past mistakes, and bring them face to face with Izzy once again. Or at least, what's left of him...

“Well,” Stede starts casually, like Ed isn’t hanging by a thread onto Stede’s every fucking breath, the little shit. “If you wanted to… indulge it a little more, we could try something out today. Me using you whenever I like.”
And the noise Ed makes is undeniably a whine.
“Like… free use?”
“Is that what it’s called?” Stede asks, a second eyebrow joining the first, and Ed nods, head swimming, mind already fucking reeling. “Then yes, like free use.”
“Fuck, Stede,” Ed whispers. “Yeah. I think I might like that.”

"Fine, maybe after their first few meetings Stede might have described Izzy Hands as full of nothing but piss and vinegar, but he had come to realise more and more that he had been wrong. The man was infuriating, true. Angry, disillusioned. Practical to a fault. But also more loyal than any knight from a story book. Observant, dedicated, with a kindness that asked none in return. Oddly (irritatingly) funny, and breathtaking with a sword. Even down a leg, the man had managed to awe Stede with his skill and flair. It seemed to Stede an utter injustice in the world that such a man should sit resigned to not being worth the effort of romancing."

In the aftermath of Calypso's celebration, things still aren't quite right aboard The Revenge, and Stede is determined to fix it, with his new First Mate at his side. However, when he overhears Izzy talking about his experience (or lack thereof) of romance, Stede finds himself determined not only to make things better for the crew but to show Izzy how much he is appreciated. He sets off on a mission to woo Israel Hands and finds himself feeling things he hadn't anticipated.
